Sept 13 .. Hampton, VA "Bay Days"

Si's note - completely my fault that this took so long to post... sorry.

Hey everyone! The Noisemakers are coming to a city near you! A few days ago we were in Norfolk, VA. For the annual Bay Days festival. We were supposed to do this show a while back but, we had to cancel because of storms.

I am so glad that we re-booked this show. First, I have to say how good it was to see Si and Melissa Reagan. I knew this was going to be a special show when I saw those smiling faces.

We were also joined on this show by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. I love these guys, they are amazing musicians and even better people. So, it is always a treat for me to be around such incredible talents.

There are no travel nightmares to share with you. This was one of those rare occasions, when almost everything went as planned. At least it seemed that way to me..

We were set to go on stage at 8 but, Sonny, JT and I were still sitting at the hotel waiting for a ride at 7:45.. Our driver finally arrived at 7:50. We started getting a little twitchy.

Bruce was in great form for this show. I think he wanted this show to be a little more special for the home town folks. We hit the stage with such energy and received same energy in return. The feeling was amazing. Bruce started calling members of Ricky’s band on stage and they played with us almost the entire time. It sounded great and felt great. I was looking at the crowd and saw nothing but smiling faces and people dancing in the aisles and in seats. What a rush! We also had a friend of Bruce’s, Floyd Hill, sit in on vocals. Floyd turns up on a CD every now and then and we love him. So, when Bruce started the song “Prairie Dog Town”, I motioned for Floyd to come over and sing his part from the new record. Now, I love Floyd but, he can’t sing worth a damn. And, he had no idea where to sing or when :) This was perfect for me. I was laughing so hard at Floyd just going for broke, that I almost had to stop playing. Bruce kept looking back and laughing. It was the best.

This night almost matched any show we ever played at The Biltmore. Which is starting to be the show standard for the Noisemakers. So, for those of us lucky enough to be a part of this show, we were blessed this night.

I hope to see you on the next leg of the tour.. Come by and say hello…

Peace,
JV
