ParticipantNew to the forum, but wanted to post about the show.
I’ve been going to Bruce shows in all their forms for the past 16 years and this show was my least favorite of all.
Here’s why – The show was limited to 90 minutes which is unheard of for a Bruce show as far as I’ve seen. He basically played all his radio hits took one request and didn’t seem to really be into it as he was being rushed. The jams were short and the band was crammed on the stage and didn’t seem to really be into it.
It just seemed to be like a lounge act on stage, not the typical fun stories and long jams. I just hope he never plays there again. Well let’s just say I won’t be going to another show at that venue.
Bruce sounded great and the 90 minutes was worth the $30 but I just set my expectations so High and I was all worked up for hearing some Rainbows Cadillac, Sunflower China Cat, Fortunate Son – possibly a Dead tune. But non of it.
Here was the setlist(2nd song was potentially new didn’t recognize it):
1. Carry the Water
2. Circus on the Moon
3. Mandolin Rain
4. Gonna Be Some Changes Made
5. White Wheeled Limo
6. End of the Innocence
7. Super Freak – Bluegrass Style – Bruce on Accordian
8. Jacob’s Ladder>Pig Song>Jacob’s Ladder
9. Way It Is
Encore:
10. Valley RoadFor at least the past 7 or 8 years he’s been out in the crowd, inviting people on stage have a great time and giving us a great show. This was certainly the exception. I couldn’t fall asleep last night because I was so mad about it.
If I knew that’s how the venue would be, I would never have gone.
The venue holds 898 people and I would say there were 700 there and many of those people kept getting up and leaving to go gamble or get drinks. By the final two songs there were about 350 – 400 left in the room.
I love Bruce’s music and will certainly go to many more shows all over the US, but will always check the venue out to find out if there are limitations and time limits. Hope he comes back to Humphery’s this summer.
So for the downer report as a first post. Look forward to reading through the forum.
Edited to add #2 song.

ParticipantHey Dave, Sorry you had a bad time. I am glad you posted about it. Good tips to help make some wise choices. If I had seen this show as my first one, and didn’t know what to expect, I might have been very pleased. Good job on set list. Thanks again for the info.

Thanks again for the info. It’s still always great to see Bruce, but after having been to so many shows I can’t even count – it was just way different than what I was used to.
Plus all those people who were really there just to gamble we not into it and that takes away from Bruce’s performance as well.
He did a good job – just wish it a full blown show as I was expecting.
I’m sure he will make his way back to Humphrey’s this summer – always a fun place to see him.

ParticipantI considered making the trip down (from the Santa Cruz area) for this show.
Wow, I’m glad I didn’t. Way too short from the setlist.

Thanks for the update. I just heard him say this was a new song, but didn’t catch the name at all. I didn’t recognize the song.
