Thanks to our friend Lori for requesting this concert from Bruce Hornsby and the Range in Amsterdam. This one is from 1990.
Lori’s story is an outstanding one. She interprets Bruce’s shows (and formerly the Grateful Dead’s) for the hard of hearing. Just imagine that challenge for an improvisational giant like Bruce or the Dead. We spoke to her about it:
“I’ve interpreted music for 25 years, and the Dead for as long, so I have met a lot of musicians. It’s a blessing to visually represent Bruce’s and the Noisemakers’ work. Impossibly hard, but a blessing nonetheless.”
“It’s quite an honor to have “The Man’s” support and appreciation of my work. He is the nicest person and musician I have ever met.”
Lori made it to this concert in Amsterdam in 1990 while following the Dead around Europe, and so she requested the download. It’s a very fun (and LOUD!) show – probably the most covers I’ve heard in one Bruce show (count them – fourteen!) including Jumping Jack Flash, Jack Straw before it was ever released on the Dedicated tribute record, and Wooly Bully (Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs!)
This isn’t even the whole show, as sadly the original recording is missing a couple of tracks. This is more than enough to keep you happy though. A really fun show.
