Obituary: Jack DeJohnette 1942-2025

Jack DeJohnetteJack DeJohnette, the world-renowned drummer and jazz musician, and long-time collaborator with Bruce Hornsby, passed away on October 26 2025 at the age of 83.

He book-ended Bruce’s three “movie-score” records – his drums opened Absolute Zero, and closed Point Omega on ‘Flicted.

He was also part of Bruce’s jazz trio with Christian McBride, releasing Camp Meeting and played with Bruce as recently as 2021.

Speaking of the musicality of his drums, Jack said: “I am hearing orchestrally, I guess one example would be the cymbals are to my drum set what the sustain pedal is on the acoustic piano. So I am hearing colors.”
