Bob Weir 1947-2026

Today we celebrate Bob Weir, who passed away on January 10 at the age of 78.

Bob founded what would become the Grateful Dead at age 16, with Jerry Garcia.

He remained active in music until his passing, including a number of collaborations in different guises with Bruce Hornsby:Bob Weir

  • Bruce would occasionally sit in the the Grateful Dead when touring with the Range
  • When Bruce was a touring member of the Grateful Dead between 1990 and 1992
  • Post-Dead, in the Other Ones between 1998 and 2000
  • “Alone and Together”, playing joint solo and duo double bill shows in 2012
  • The “Fare Thee Well” shows to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead
  • A recent collaboration that Bruce noted in his tribute: “We just worked together in 2025 on some new music and had a joyful time with it. This piece, a song I wrote with Robert Hunter, will stand as our mutual final collaboration, and I will always cherish it, along with all the times we played together through the years, from 1988 until last year. Sometimes it was pretty freaking magical.”
