KeymasterI’ve often wondered who is downloading the doses, and who my regular visitors are – at the moment I just gauge by feedback or e-mails received.
I wonder how people would feel about a “membership” system? – all free, naturally – where you’d need to log in with a unique ID and password to download the Daily Dose.
It’s by no means essential, but would be a useful tool for me, anyway.
Use your vote at the top of this page.
I should add that registration would be separate to the one for this forum. If you don’t wish to register here to vote, you can still post your opinion below.
Thanks,
– Si.

ParticipantSi–
This comes from a long-time visitor and frequent daily dose downloader, but is a 1st time posting/comunique.First, thank you, thank you!!! so very much for your tireless efforts, you are highly appreciated and respected for all you do for the BRH community. For nearly 15 years now, I have thoroughly enjoyed and have come to depend on the musical genius that is Bruce, and I look forward each day to visiting your site, catching the latest news, tour dates, downloads, etc.
Secondly, I (and according to your poll, everyone else) would have no problem registering to get the DDose, it is quite understandable that you would be interested in who is visiting the site and shows that you (and others that help you) are dedicated to giving us the best of Hornsbiana.
Finally, the Shadow Hands project was a smashing success, thank you again!!!! I look forward to everything you have in store for us, hopefully one day at a show I will have the opportunity to thank you in person.
Very gratefully yours, Bill Madl Lawrence, KS, U.S.A.

KeymasterThanks for the kind words, Bill, and you are all extremely welcome. As forthcoming as everyone is to pitch in, it’s really no big effort, and certainly no chore.
Glad you liked Shadow Hands; glad you’re enjoying the forum, and I hope you continue to make use of it.
best,
– Si.

No problem, Si. I have been a faithful “daily doser” since ’01, and whatever means you wish to “express” the Doses is fine with me.
Thanks for all your diligent work on the site over the years.

ParticipantRegister for doses? Heck I’d eat lightbulbs for them!
No problem registering for them at all. Just keep up the great work in making them available and it’s all good. And for the record, I first found out about Bruce’s music approximately one year ago, and from that point on, I’ve felt so much more enriched thanks to his music and this site. Since then I’ve purchased all of Bruce’s albums, been to one of his concerts at Turning Stone and even interviewed him for my radio show. He’s such a nice and awesome guy. Thanks in part to your site, Si, I’ve been able to reach deeper into Bruce’s career and talent, and all the more I keep getting amazed by him.

GuestSo a body would have to register to indicate that they’re against registering eh? You’re a tricky guy Si.
Thanks for all of your effort on the site. It has brought me a great deal of enjoyment.

Not quite – registration for the doses would be separate to this forum. And you don’t need to register to post on this site, just to vote. I’m not that crafty!

GuestRegistering for Daily Doses
I would not mind signing up for the daily doses. If that means we can continue to be entertained by new music I’m all for it. Love all that you do Si.

GuestDear Si,
I have periodically visited your wonderful site for a few years now. During that time I have seen it evolve into an amazing resource. Whilst it disturbs me that BH hasn’t received greater commercial acclaim for his music and talents, I feel very privileged to have discovered his music and have played several albums probably hundreds of times. I never grow sick of listening to his songs.
But before I digress to far, I applaud you for all your efforts in providing fans of BH an outlet for info on his tours and downloads amongst other things.
I saw him live for the first time last year in Boston and again in Los Angeles. Both were special moments that I will never forget.
I would have no problem registering with you to download (nor would I object to a fee just quietly)
Thanks so much Si. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and I wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Nick Marcovich

ParticipantFair enough. For those who are really concerned about privacy, you might also allow one username/password to get out, either freely available on the site, available trhough emailing you, or left for people to find themselves via something like http://www.bugmenot.com.

KeymasterThanks all for your input on this. You’ll gather that I’ve now put the log-in system in place.
Please note that whatever user ID and password you use will be separate to whatever you’ve chosen for this forum. (Unless, of course, you choose to keep them the same!)
To reassure those who might be concerned, the e-mail it asks for is solely to send out a password reminder – your e-mails go nowhere. If you’re trepidacious, just give it a fake e-mail address.
And please rest assured that this is not the gateway to a charge being introduced for this site, as I’ve been asked. It’s solely so I know who’s stopping by, and to throw in a few bonus doses when I’m in a good mood!
Thanks again,
– Si.

Guestsaving the dose
I have a problem with the saving of the doses . When I go to save the file it saves the membership manger and not the mp3 file . Is this supposed to be what happens ? I can only play the dose while online.

JohnAre you using Firefox, by any chance? If so, left-click instead of right-click on the dose. If that doesn’t cover it, let me know.

GuestI am using Mac OS X with Safari or IE as a browser
July 19, 2005 at 7:02 pm #26199Will_S
ParticipantUsing Safari, log in and then ctrl-click on the song title. From the contextual menu that appears, choose Download Linked File. At first, a cgi file will appear in your download window but then the mp3 file you want will start to download.
Si, I seem to have to re-login every time I visit the site if I want to download a dose, even though I have cookies enabled. Is there any way to stay logged in for those who don’t mind persistent cookies?
July 19, 2005 at 7:19 pm #26200Si Twining
KeymasterThanks for the tip, Will. I’ll look into the issue with cookies – were you referring to the forum or with the Daily Doses?

ParticipantI wouldn’t have any problem with a separate registration to download, it’d just take another second to sign up and log in!
August 10, 2005 at 12:29 pm #26204Grits_N_Gravy
ParticipantA little FYI for Mac users …
You also can use Firefox to download. The file comes in as a . cgi … just change the extension to .mp3 after it downloads, then drop it in iTunes. No problems at all.
Thanks, Si, for all that you do!

I had the same problem, but there’s a way around it, although Si won’t like it because it probably means he loses the data on who is downloading what!
