ParticipantThoughts From A Road Scholar!
David Day wrote:Sometimes I get a song in my head and just can’t seem to keep my mind off of it. I’ve been listening and thinking about Defenders of the Flag for the past several weeks. While we’re waiting for someone to connect the dots between Bruce, Steely Dan and Bruce’s new jazz record, I thought I would open another subject.
I do get these songs in my head and sometimes I just can’t get enough. I’ll listen to it several times a day and literally wear them out, but I want to hear more of it for whatever reason. I’ll even sneek in the DVD before I watch a movie.
Lately, I’m hooked on both the live version and DVD of Candy Mountain Run off Intersections. Wow! I can’t get enough! Doug, Bobby and Sonny are standouts. JT adds organ at just the right time and JV is there to bring it all together. What a great song! ❗ If you watch the DVD, you can tell by Bruce’s look that they have hit a sweet spot! ❗
Check it out! It’s outstanding! ❗
What do you think?

“Forget about tomorrow live for today
No guarantee I’ll make it anyway
My special candy taste good now
Everyday I die a little (little?) anyhow”I’ve listened to Candy Mountain Run 100s of time trying to figure that out. I’ll defer my thoughts on that question for others to reply first.
It’s a great song! (I’m leading up to Candy Mountain Run on my “Has Bruce Peaked?” thread.) Check it out.
I’ll asked the same question. How about a lyrical analysis from some of you other road scholars! ❗

ParticipantI had read that Bruce has said that it was directly inspired by Big Rock Candy Mountain. Hence the Superb medley.

ParticipantDavid Day wrote:I can’t seem to get this song off my mind! That doesn’t sound so bad… It could be worse; the song going ‘round in your head could be the muzak version of Led Zeppelin’s D’Yer Mak’er
Speaking of unforgettable songs-the one I can’t stop hearing in my head is Look Out Any Window (the Intersections version); it’s so amazing!

Participantlive the song really takes off, espcially with the big rock candy intro. funny, i’ve seen it performed live twice, the second time, knowing (by my bruce intuition) that it was going to come and wasn’t too impressed. then i heard the live version and i was blown away. it was the oyster bay show from 2006 btw

ParticipantI once heard a version of Big Rock Candy Mountain( maybe it was the original that was written so that there were no positive or desirable references to alcohol. It was so lame… Try thinking of that.
Or you could always ask the lord…
