ParticipantI thought it was phenomenal!
When he started playing End Of The Innocence I froze….It was probably the most stunning version I have ever heard of that song….I was screaming for him to keep going and play Danny Boy after just like on his recent tour! hehehe
It was a great show and I can’t believe how big Skaggs has gotten over the years…I saw some footage of him from early 80’s and he was a twig!! I guess that’s what happens when you have all the money in the world to eat the best food in the world hehehe!
Nice job Bruce!

ParticipantGreat Show
I thought the show was excellent. My favorite was the opener. The Way It Is was done flawlessly and the harmonies blew me away. I really hope I can get this on a CD somehow to really turn it up and jam in my truck.

ParticipantWhen the concert began with Bruce playing Intro to the way it is, I thought it was hilarious when he said that this was the straightest he played the song in 20 years. This show was definitely worth the wait and deserves praise. The song selection was superb. Valley Road was played flawlessly like it was on the box set as well. I cannot wait to listen to the CD in March.

KeymasterIf anyone taped this or has the means of putting it onto DVD, please make yourselves known!

ParticipantI’ve got it on my DVR and would be honored to make you a copy, Si, if you can play U.S. DVDs. Send me your address…
I would also be willing to do B&Ps for others as long as the demand doesn’t get overwhelming.

ParticipantI loved it! But I don’t understand why they didn’t do “Jacob’s Ladder”?
Ellen, shoot me an email @ mailto:teresa_richardson@abss.k12.nc.us because I’d like to get in on the DVR thing.

KeymasterBefore everyone jumps on Ellen’s kind offer, can I suggest that those interested e-mail her, rather than the other way round, please? If she’s able to help, I’m sure she’ll get back to you.
(There’s an e-mail button and a PM (Private Message) button under her post).
Thanks!

ParticipantThank GOD for Time Warner Hi-Def…I got to watch that gem crystal clear…Amazing how crisp Bruce’s fingers look and move in High-Def…
😆
On a serious note, I came away from that show marveling at how solid Bruce has become in his vocals. Bluegrass vocals, whether it be lead or background are VERY challenging, and moving constantly. Bruce sang like he had been doing this full time for many years. His background vocal work on The Way It Is, Dreaded Spoon, and the 2nd tune which was a Bill Monroe cover (sorry, can’t remember the title) were stellar…
The Way It Is, Mandolin Rain, and End of the Innocence were so solid played in their new format. Ricky Scaggs adds such a defining quality to these songs when played like this. He is the perfect compliment to Bruce in this arena. I have alot of new found respect for this artist. The band were seasoned with the consumate Bluegrass professionals. Was very impressed with the fiddle player. Tight!!!!
Call me crazy, but I smell MAJOR awards for these two when it comes to the CMA’s this year…..It’s the perfect fit for a sure to be feel-good album. I look forward to its release!!

ParticipantIs anyone working on a torrent to seed (either here or on etree, dime, etc.)? If not, I will do a b&p with Ellen_G and work on getting something uploaded…

ParticipantIt looks like the Crossroads show did exactly what it was designed to do….expose fans of one artist or genre to another….
The chemistry between these guys was great, and the level of musicianship on the entire stage was incredible.
I’ll have to say though…I was one of the lucky ones who got to see the show when it was taped for CMT, and listening to the music on TV was like looking at a reprint of a Monet or Picasso after you just stared at the original in a museum…no comparison. The depth of the instruments on stage live was magic.
The new version of Mandolin Rain is….haunting. Man, what a different character that song has in its new format. And I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….listening to that song with Ricky Skaggs playing the mandolin is the best.
The “Dreaded Spoon” is already a new favorite. I can’t wait to wear out that track on the CD.
It was also cool to see the backstage or rehearsal segments on the Crossroads show. It was obvious from the way they worked together on stage that they had a friendship before walking out onto stage.
So, how many more days til the CD comes out???

But the CMAs — and next year’s Grammy’s — are a sure bet!

ParticipantComments I’ve come across from around the internet:
“I saw it recently and IMO is the best episode of crossroads that CMT has produced. If you don’t like this combination, I actually feel sorry for you. To hear “that just the way it is” and with Kentucky thunder backing Bruce up, is a masterpiece. I knew Bruce could play the piano, but what he does is not simply play but he owns it. It is an extension of his arms. I recorded it on HD and 5.1 and when I crank it up, well it’s just heaven.”
“Just finished watching a tape of this show. Good job CMT!!!! Why can’t you put music like this on all the time?
Wonderful, gifted artists from one end of the stage, to the other. Kentucky Thunder is one of the best in Bluegrass, and Hornsby has quite a unique style on the piano. Had no idea he had such a diverse musical background.
Enjoyed the show from start to finish. If you haven’t watched it yet, treat yourself to some fine music, and catch this episode. “
“Ricky Skaggs is on CMT right now (with Bruce Hornsby — I was curious, and I flipped on the audio, and they were doing a Bluegrass version of “The Way It Is” and I was all “…man…” because the bluegrass part was kinda good, but then you realise what SONG it is and you’re all “dammit…”), but it’s funny, because he totally looks like a Televangelist now. He’s actually got kinda a Jerry Falwell kinda vibe. He’s all Falwell With A Mandolin!”
“I watched CMT’s Crossroads with Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby last night. Even if you don’t care for bluegrass, you should make a point to see this. It was beautiful. The rendition of Mandolin Rain was truly beautiful.”
“OMG it was a train wreck you just couldn’t stop watching. ROFLMSAO!!!” – Concerning Superfreak
“BTW, wtf happened to Ricky Skaggs in the past 10 years? His head looks like a helium balloon that’s about to explode.”
_________
Is the CMT appearance really bring all this new traffic to the boards?
If you haven’t seen it/recorded it yet you haven’t missed your chance….

ParticipantGreat show! Was I having an auditory hallucination or did Bruce sneak in a few notes of Webern after the last verse of “The Way It Is”?
