Are the solo shows a recent phenomenon?
I always thought he did lots of solos shows but it seems like a more recent thing have any of the folks here attended solo shos pre 2000?
There do seem to be MORE solo shows lately, but I first attended a solo show in 1998, have a tape of a solo show from 1994, and believe there is one from 1992 out there.
I always thought the solo shows were something that was post 2000 but I guess from the previous post…not! I like the idea that one time its with the band and the next just Bruce and the piano…
I always felt very luck to have attended two solo shows and I still do however they are not quite a exclusive as I first believed.
There were definitely solo shows prior to 2000.
I remember Bruce playing solo sets in Borders Books in support of the “Hot House” CD in 1995. I saw one in Washington DC that summer. (They were free, too!) He played solo at Constitution Hall there as well. He gradually added a few more the next couple of years, including one with Bela Fleck and one with Jackson Browne in 1996. By 1998, he played several, including a week at Yoshi’s in LA. In 1999, there was the great 3 nights of solo Bruce in Williamsburg, VA right down the street from where he grew up.
The solo gigs have a very intimate vibe. When the “band” is Bruce’s left hand, you’re in for a special night.
