ParticipantI went from Toronto to Albany in 2006 ad walked over 10 Km to the solo show in Toronto in 2004. Does this qualify me for membership?
Does changing countries add to the value?

Steve,
You’re close, but probably still a Road Scholar in Training. Need more information about the number of shows, miles driven and some more road stories. Walking 10 KM (6.2 miles) to a show does give you some extra credit!
You will be a good Road Scholar one day!

I will continue to struggle towards the light. 😮

ParticipantWould a road scholar ever use a GPS??? 😉

ParticipantI don’t know, the lost parts of my trips tend to be the best. Running around outside the Egg in Albany last November trying to find a door into the venue was at least as much fun as the show, allowing the fact that we made it to our seats before the first note (by about 30 seconds)

I true Road Scholar would study every possible way before they even got in their car. The “mission” to get there are fast as possible to get to the meetup. Sometimes short cuts pop up and gut instinct tells a true Road Scholar where to turn. So, a true Road Scholar doesn’t need GPS, they got GPS in their brain!

Clearly it was funnier than my attempt at humour after.
I am road-tripping again this summer. from Toronto to Albany again this time to see Richard Thompson at the same venue Bruce played last fall.
Do other artist lead to partial credit?

Participantok – I’ve been out of touch for a long time, but I think I’d qualify for “road scholar” status -but is seems David maintains the power to bestow the title, so…..
I’ve seen Bruce play approximately 60 or possibly 70-some-odd times. I have seen him solo as well as with just about every configuration of his band (w/a guitar player, w/out a guitar player; w/Molo, Mike Baker, Land Richards, Bonnie Boneparte, and Sonny Emory on drums – w/the Big Dog and w/out the Big Dog, w/Debbie Henry and w/out her…. and I’ve seen him with the Grateful Dead, The Other Ones and the Sensative Ones; and sharing a stage with Bela Fleck, Bruce Springsteen, various members of his family (Bobby, Ann and RS); I’ve seen him indoors, outdoors and in festivals; I’ve danced on stage with throngs of people and by myself; and I have seen him play in ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, NY, NJ, VA, FL, WA, OR and CA. ( I don’t think I’ve left any states out.) While I’ve lived on both coasts during these times, I think I have flown across the country to catch shows at least once, but this was in conjunction with visits to family and/or friends.
During a time in my life when I had more time in my life, I used to review shows and give all kind of insights – things have become more hectic I have not reported much about the shows, but have danced my ass off every time.
I have met some truly amazing people through all this adventure and have made some wonderful friends. It’s been exuhausting, exhillarating, refreshing, and rejuvinating…. and worth ever mile, every gallon of gas and every penny.
…. thank you, and I hope I pass the audition….

Lake Lanier, GAI believe I have witnessed her do just that.
In fact, I’ve witnessed her get out of her car in NYC to yell at people.
The gdwoman and Carey both set the standard for road scholarship, in my humble opinion…!
(Actually, David, you’ll be familiar with the gdwoman. You’ll have seen her face – oooh, maybe hundreds of times!)

Lake Lanier, GAAbsolutely fair but I will say the only Bruce fans who dont love RT are the ones who have not heard him yet.

Lake Lanier, GAhmmm…..two handed independence on the dash…..??? I’d have to say most likely. I know I sing and drum like a fool on the steering wheel, dash and stick shift while I drive, so possibly that qualifies. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Si – (although I do not recall getting OUT of my car to yell at people on the street in NYC…. but I know I yell at them all the time while I’m singing and drumming with 2 handed independence behind the wheel!)
ps and btw – I will be in Atlanta for Sonny’s CD release party on June 23. There will be tickets available to this event – being held and the Fox Theater – not sure when they go on sale or any more details but I will surely let you know when I get the info from Sonny. David – since you live in Lake Lanier – that’s not too far away – maybe you will attend?

We have a witness to the fact that gdwoman has practiced two hand independence on her dash while driving! 😆
Let it now be know by the powers vested in me, by me ( 😆 ), that I herebye declare and decree that you are a fully stipened Road Scholar. You are now granted and bestowed all rights and privileges of membership into the elite society of Road Scholars!

Participantwow….
I’d like to officially thank David, Si, and Hornsbians everywhere for this very distiguised honour. I’d especially like to thank the brilliantly talented (and significantly smart-assed) Mr Hornsby himself – as, if not for his ability and penchant for making me dance with reckless abandon, it is doubtful that I would have been properly motivated to perform all the duties and activities required to earn this illustrius title.
….oh, I think I hear the music playing, I guess I’m supposed to end my thank you speech now…..
thank you very much. 😉

ParticipantOK, this is a bit of a stretch, but here goes any way….
I saw Bruce play with the Richmond Symphony at The Mosque (10th row, center — swwwweet!) back in ’92 or ’93, and loved it so much that I packed up everything I owned and moved to Syracuse so that I could be there when he played at The Landmark Theatre just after Thanksgiving of ’93.
OK, another factor might have been the job offer from some steel company that I now despise because I was stupid enough to go and work for them, but why should the truth get in the way of a good story?
Other than that, I guess I’m not much of a Road Scholar
As I get older, I find that I just don’t get the same mileage and the parts tend to break down easier. Plus, my wife is absolutely NOT a Road Scholar, and I’d have to drag her along kicking and screaming wherever I go. It’s fun when she kicks, but the screaming… well, never mind

KeymasterRich – you are positively disqualified from being a road scholar, purely on the selfish grounds that you and I have yet to make it to the same show! 😆
I’m kidding… but I do hope to see you one of these years!

I got an idea for you! 💡
Boone & Greensboro is “driving distance” for you if you were a true Road Scholar! Come on down by yourself and we can talk about it. Would love to have a conversation or two with you to talk about it!
