    Hey gang,

Just thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone can help me out. I’m teaching myself guitar and was trying to figure out Halcyon Days. Ideally i’d like to do it for an open mic and maybe, if I can get it right, contribute it to the next collection of Bruce covers–if there is a next time! Anyhow, I concede that I’m a novice guitar player, but have somewhat of an ear developed thanks to some piano studies years ago.

    Thanks!

first thing I would say is learn how to use a capo.

You will find most songs fit in a certain harmonic pattern and can be easily played on guitar if you know which fret to put the capo on.

Halcyon days should be very easy.

    Kind regards

Thanks David. The capo is definitely my new best friend. To my ears it sounds like it should be played in C on guitar…

David Rich is right! Don’t be afraid to use a capo!

Another piece of advice is to learn some bar chords. Start with an E chord. Use your first finger, the one next to your thumb, and use that as a capo. Use your other fingers to form an E chord as you slide you hand down the neck from fret to fret. One you learn that, you have just learned many chords and can learn many variations! 8)

As far as Halcyon Days, it can’t be that hard. If you or Dave Rich don’t get it picked out by this weekend, I’ll try to pick it out for you. Just let me know. :D

Dave Rich is better than me, but I was playing when he was in diapers! 😉

An offer to pick something out AND a smile? There ya go, Dave. Good ol’ fashioned Southern entertainment — pickin’ and grinnin’
