Maybe for the next tribute album :)

I wonder if he still has that shirt or those glasses.

I think it’d be a fine tribute cd cover.

The look of abject “errr, ok- i’ll give this a go but I’m not sure!” – it’s priceless :)

    Kind regards

    Kind regards

Dude… that is kick ass! It’s probably from Bobby Hornsby’s site. (“Realhorsnby” Bobby is a real estate guy). It is clearly a pic from an Octane Kids gig from when they were in college. The band included Bobby on Bass… his then girlfriend (now wife) Ann on vocals and baby brother Bruce on keys.

I have always thought, it must have been a total trip for Bruce to have been a deadhead, in a band, playing Dead cover tunes… and then getting to play with Jerry and the Grateful Dead… how cool is that?

Hey gdwoman! Where in the #@!! have you’ve been? :? You need to check in more often! 8)

Tell us more about the “Octane Kids”! Who else played in the band? :?: We need a little more information! ❗ You’ve been holding back on us! 😆

hey now – yea, I’ve been absent a while. My life is in the rhythm of chaos right now, I have a lot to try to keep track of, so it’s difficult to get on line and read for pleasure. I’m changing careers, living on the edge and “working it” as hard as I can. It’s exciting and terrifying and challenging and liberating…. and that can all be very time consuming.

I don’t know a whole lot about Bobby Hi-Test and The Octane Kids, beyond what I have already mentioned…. hidden in Bobby Hornsby’s professional Real Estate Website, are the following pages…
This link takes you to the basic “Octane Kids” page – gives member names, a little history and good pics (this is where the picture from the original post came) http://www.realhornsby.com/octanekids.htm and then this page http://www.realhornsby.com/reynovia.htm documents a gig they played at UVA.

Bobby and Ann joined Bruce at the Millennium New Years Eve gig… and I know Bobby has played with him at other gigs as well. Not sure if Ann has joined him much, but she should. I really like when they get the family up there, including RS – Ann and Bobby’s son, who is a very talented guitar player (I think he channels Jerry when he plays, so I’m a bit partial). Not only do they sound great, but it gives you that whole warm and fuzzy feeling. 😆

I love those old photos…. they are so real. They really show Bruce’s inner geek. (let’s not forget the man plays the accordion!)

(now – y’all know I’m just bustin’ on him… only because I love him to bits. Are you feeling the love on the board? huh? Are ya?)

gdwoman, thank you soo much! :D Like I said before, you need to “check-in” more often! 8)

That solves a lot of questions I’ve always had. I’ve always wondered about some of Bruce’s “roots”. 8) Have you ever seen the Octane Kids? Let us know! 8) Plez? 8)

Oh, honey – I never had the pleasure of seeing the Octane Kids! In April of 1974 (when those black and whites were taken) I was just a cute little girl in pig tales, barely 6-years-old, living in Long Island – a far cry from UVA frat parties. I sort of doubt they’d have let me in, if you know what I mean! I just know the stories from hanging around, paying attention, and doing my homework – I guess take the “scholar” part of road scholar to heart…
