I’d like to enlist the help of the musicians and music aficionados on the board.

We all know Bruce likes to change the way he plays songs from time to time, especially his hit songs. I’ve noticed one certain “groove” on two different songs from two different recordings:

1.The Valley Road from Here Come The Noisemakers
    2. Look Out Any Window from the Munck Music recording of the July 11, 2002, Salt Lake City show.

Does this tempo have a name? I really like it! :D (This is a serious question)

Does anyone else have a favorite version of one of Bruce’s songs?

I really enjoyed the version of The Valley Road on the recording of Sept. 22, 2004, Copenhagen show (Greatful Dead style).
Also The End of the Innocence from the Fort Worth show, Jan. 26, 2007 was very touching he faded into Song A and Danny Boy seamlessly. It is truly beautiful. *tear* 😥

Sorry Jackie I don’t know the tempo name, but I thought I would share that! ;)

I’ve not heard that “Window,” but “The Valley Road” as played on HCTN is a semi-shuffle, played in 6/8 time. Doesn’t BH state as such in the box set liner notes :?: I think that he also says that that version (of VR) was a segue out of the Dead tune “Wharf Rat”….altho’ I could be mistaken ’bout that :?

Fave versions? Why you gotta ask such a hard question? :P I happ’d to enjoy the HELL out of the “Defenders>King O’ The Hill” he played at Lowell this summer, a monster that featured a Ravel piece at the beginning, some ‘out’ seguing between the tunes, and a squeaky mic stand/drum solo. Also, funnily enough, a semi-regular tempo/time sig. “Valley Road” with the chromatic keys/sax/git harmony, and Ornette’s “Questions and Answers” rearing its harmolodic head in the middle.

    Memories…. :D

    Andy,
I agree;those are two great versions of Bruce’s songs. Speaking of the Copenhagen show, isn’t the version of Look Out Any Window from that concert cool? There must be something about that song that lends itself to Bruce’s “reworking.”

    Takavl,
Thanks for the answer to my question. The liner notes in my copy of the box set began coming apart soon after I opened them and I’ve been reluctant to pick them up again. Guess I’d better “get over it”-sounds like there is a lot of good information there!

You’re probably right about the Wharf Rat >Valley Road because Bruce also played Wharf Rat before Look Out Any Window during the 2002 Salt lake City show.

I’d love to hear that Defenders>King Of The Hill, etc. Maybe it will be released someday…
