ParticipantThought I’d let you folks know that Melissa (Regan) Smith passed away about an hour ago. Missy has been battling ALS for the last 3-1/2 years. For many of you who had some contact with her as Bruce’s assistant over her 14 years of working for him, you met one of the kindest people to have walked the planet.
If it hadn’t been for Missy – I would not have had the privilege to work on Bruce’s site. If you didn’t know her, you may not have known how she never wore her ‘job’ on her sleeve. I had no idea she worked for a mega-star (and had known her for a couple of years). Very unassuming, and beautiful on the inside and out. Missy will be missed – please keep her family in your prayers during this difficult time.
Bryan
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (Rev. 21:4, NIV)September 14, 2010 at 8:51 pm #32223mary
ParticipantMelissa is the one that arranged for me to meet Bruce for the very first time years ago here in Colorado. We shared a lot of fun emails over the years while she worked for Bruce and I will miss her greatly. Rest in peace, Melissa.

ParticipantMelissa was the wonderful young lady who corresponded with me when she was able to line up my first meeting with Bruce backstage in Norfolk, VA at the Harrison Opera House in December of 1993! I still have the letter framed and am forever grateful for her professionalism, warm heart and generosity! She was awesome to work with over the years on a variety of projects . . .
I was fortunate enough to meet her in person in 2005/2006 in my current job at Newport News Television where I have used Bruce’s music in a number of my photo essays! It was only one meeting in person with her and she was a beautiful woman both on the inside and out- and so glad that I was able to meet her one on one to let her know face to face what a pleasure it was to work with her over the years and to thanks for all the work she had done!
Melissa, you can rest now for you are no longer suffering! I’m glad to know have known you and also glad that you made a difference and made a lot of people especially the fans of Bruce Hornsby a lot happier for going that extra mile to fulfill our dreams and our wishes over the years! May God Bless You now and forever!

ParticipantWhat a beautiful photo Simon has posted on the home page of this site. We can all see her amazing spirit in her eyes and her smile. I wish I’d been fortunate enough to meet her in person, but she stunned the life out of me by calling me once. And we corresponded occasionally via email. The world lost someone very special today.
Peace be with you Missy

ParticipantA very sad day for the Bruuuce Nation! She will be remembered!
I’ll never forget that my 50th b’day just happened to be on a Saturday night at Biltmore. A few of us were at the Inn having a meet-up, and the wait staff came up and presented me with a silver platter. I took off the lid and there was an envelope inside. I opened it just thinking it was another b’day card, but…..Melissa had taken the time to track me down and send me a little birthday surprise! And, what a great surprise it was!
My “defenders” flag is now at half-mast. A day of mourning has now been declared!

ParticipantSorry to hear the sad news today. It’s apparent by the many stories shared here and on Facebook that Melissa brought a lot of sunshine into the lives of the people around her and to many of Bruce’s fans.
Thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family today.

ParticipantLots of prayers and love for her friends and family.
She will be remembered. Takes a special person to bring such joy to us fans. I have a few special memories in my Bruce collection, and without a special person like Melissa, I don’t think I would have those memories to look back on today.

ParticipantWhat a wonderful person. She will be missed.
I believe another piano man once spoke of how only the good die young. So true.

ParticipantI’m deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Melissa. She was beautiful inside and out. Her kindness to me and countless others through the years will always be with me. She graciously handled my many requests to the Hornsby office, was eager to hear my “road trip” stories and even gave me valuable advice when dealing with record company execs ! I was fortunate to have known her.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.September 25, 2010 at 10:29 am #32233bryandunn
