I was just Googling various thangs and look what I found:

Yes, it’s JT, with his buddy Denny Walley (who, besides playing with Beefheart, also did two tours with Zappa), not to mention Jeff Tepper, John French, and Van Vliet himself. If rock gossip memory serves, I believe it was Walley who got JT the gig with Van Vliet…

Anyhoo, enjoy. Don’t forget to click on the Schenkel art to enlarge.

Well, that photo must have been taken within the two or three weeks JT was in Beefheart as he was fired shortly after he was hired.
Cool find if that is him, because of such a short of stint he had with that band, it would be surprising.

Pretty sure that’s JT — it looks like him, and if the zealots at the Radar Station are to be believed (Van Vlietians are, for the most part, even MORE fanatical than Zappologists, assuming that their info is also correct, tee hee), well, there ya go… 😆

    Plus, didja see this comment:

That is John “J.T.” Thomas. I knew him during this time period and have a few pics of him.

The posters are mentioning that this is a cover for the still-unreleased “BatChainPuller” lp, which (my Beefheart history is not as good as my Zappa history, despite this cross-pollination) I believe was bound up in Zappa suing another manager, or Van Vliet and FZ not getting along again, or some such shit. As for JT, wasn’t he hired, then fired for doing the sidegroup Mallard, then re-hired to record “BatChain”?

I would be very interesting to know…wonder if any eyes reading this could pass it on. Gossipy music fans (like me! :D ) would LOVE to get some inside dope…. 😆
