ParticipantI’ve heard some reports of tapers being shut down recently. Is this the norm now? Should we be prepared to not be allowed to bring taping gear in the venue? Both artists explicitly have allowed taping in the past (with a few exceptions for a couple tours) but now they are not being consistent as this current tour progresses.
I’m wondering whether si_twining can clear up some issues here. It would be nice to know if we are allowed to tape since both band’s policies afford us that privilege. On the other hand if they are not going to allow taping going forward it would be nice to be informed of that so we don’t bring unnecessary gear to the show.
Thanks

KeymasterBest advice I can offer is to try. I wonder whether this might be Bela Fleck’s policy rather than Bruce’s – and may yet depend on the venue.

ParticipantSometimes venues have a blanket policy against recording (taping)and will try to enforce it even if the artists allow open taping. In these situations I usually have them bring over the tour manager to give the ok.

ParticipantThe Flecktones have always been a taper friendly band. I would imagine it’s a venue thing as many recordings from the current Flecktones tour are already in circulation.

ParticipantIt’s definitely not a venue issue.
Multiple recent reports of being shut down by Bruce’s staff on taperssection.com.
I only posted about this here to see if we could get some clarification on the matter from si_twining since he is connected with the organization. I guess at this point clarification isn’t necessary as it’s been reported that Bruce’s staff is shutting down taping (not the venues and not Bela’s staff) and they have the final say apparently. It would be nice if they would update the policy on the website so people are informed.

ParticipantCrisis averted. Biltmore show taped. Haven’t listened yet but if it sounds OK I’ll try to have it up soon. Will post here when done.
Goodnight.

Hey, Ashevillain,
Being highly uncoordinated in the ways of these new-fangled computer thingys, could I beseech you to PLEASE make a hard copy of the Biltmo’ 2011 concert!!! I am trying to talk my son into copying some of my favorite lesser- known Bruce CDs to use in trade. You would be at the top of my mailing list (although it may be just a little while…my son just got married two months ago, and so is ever so slightly occupied right now…). Bless You!!!!!
