No…..There was no “Candy Mountain Rain”! It turned out to be a beautiful evening just like Biltmore!
Seems you don’t understand “Dreadlock Dave’s” humor!
You see……Long time ago, way back when, it became my “fudicary duty” to yell out either Tango King or Candy Mountain Run when Bruce doesnt’ know what the crowd wants to hear. Chastain has always been a different type of crowd versus the crowd that Bruce likes at Biltmore.
Get the picture……There are tables in front of the stage at Chastain where “season subscribers” sit with their wine, cheese, catered food and candles. They are at the show more for the “social event” than to hear Bruce. Bruce normally doesn’t know what to play, there are usually no reguest and Bruce always seems “uncomfortable” at what to play to appease this “wine & cheese” crowd! To understand what happened at Chastian, you have to understand what happened the night before at Biltmore…..
At Biltmore the night before, I had the opportunity to “preach” to some of the Nosiemakers about, “please don’t make Chastain a ‘soft show’ as you usually do”!…..Seems they took my advice!
Bruce for once, actually came out, engaging the crowd, throwing grapes at this “wine & cheese” crowd and begin playing his a$$ off! At the end of the third song, I yelled out “Tango King”. He looked at me and asked me to say it again. Then he said, “Your wish is my command!”
As his set ended and he was way past his 90 minute allotment, he stood up to leave to let Bella play. I yelled out “Candy Mountain Run” and Bruce said……”What the hell” and went back to his piano and played it!
The crowd looked at me with amazement, but at the end, I was able to fulfill my fiduciary duty!
There were many, many more songs and Bruce did go way past his time allotment, but it was the best Chastain show ever in the 14 times that Bruce has been there!
I didn’t write them all down, but Bruce did not play anything he played the night before at Biltmore, but Bird Land, which was Burce’s and Bella’s encore. He didn’t even play the bluegrass version of The Way It Is…..
Thanks for asking! Hopefully, you now get the picture! 😆
Still havin’ a ball!
Still in the “high” country! 😆
