I endured fast and faster bluegrass with Ricky and Bruce at the Peace Center in Greenville SC (as well as a long version of White Wheeled Limousine and a little preamble about the original bass player on 20/20 Vision during which Bruce mentioned that he’d be playing with Pat Metheny in July and August.) PM will be busy on a European tour after a few US shows, so we may have to wait for details.

Check out a young P. Metheny on Joni Mitchell’s live CD/DVD “Shadows and Light “. He was part of her band during that period. Very talented. Hope Bruce and Pat play Pittsburgh during their tour..

Hopefully its with the Noisemakers and not with Skaggs.
The bluegrass thing gets old quick for me but I do want to see Metheny again.
However, I need the spontaneity of the jams along with all the other genres Bruce throws out there in a Noisemakers setting as those Skaggs shows are more structured with less jams.

Also, I am surprised however that Bruce would even be interested in doing another Bruce & Bobby ‘Alone & Together’ this Fall seeing that the GD crowd talk during shows and yell for GD songs the whole time(because they don’t have the music palate to know Bruce’s tunes) you can tell how annoyed he got during those Oakland shows so why go through that again.
I am pumped though to see Bruce & Bobby but I know its going to be annoying dealing with the GD song titles yelled all night and I am one of the hugest deadheads too but also love me some Hornsby and want to hear his catalog as Bobby will play the GD stuff.

I think a tour with Metheny would present some interesting setlists, but any show featuring Weir is my kryptonite. I love nearly everything in the GD canon, but when Weir starts singing, I can’t skip to the next song quickly enough. JMO on that, and I may be in the minority as far as Deadheads go.

    Nothing wrong with Bobby’s voice…now Phil’s that’s another story.

I’m with you on the Weir’d continuously variable pitch warbling. My own kryptonite is “jazz clapping” by an audience during the music. I made a last minute decision to go down “up”town in Charlotte to the newish Knight Theatre to see Pat Metheny’s Unity Band. I guess it’s been thirty years since I listened to PM, and in this show he went from solo (opening with a dual neck harp/guitar) to four to five on stage to duets with everyone. Also, the second band set and one of the encores used five robotic pods – two that looked like antique kitchen cabinets that contained what looked like jars and maybe whistles?; two metal frames each with a cymbal, one with a drum and some bells, the other (or both) with a small vibe; and a huge vibe/xylophone table that looked like an olympic sized foosball table. All of these gadgets appeared to play via computer control without any kind of syncing from the musicians. Very Disneylike but perfectly integrated with the band and fun to watch hammers moving and lights flashing on each note from the cabinets. Pat said they had just missed a couple shows due to weather (for the first time in 40 years he could remember), and we got treated to a two and a half hour show with two band encores and a solo finale. As for where Bruce could fit into this I can only see him as a guest player and definitely with guys that are more fusion than traditional in any way.

Just bought tix to Chautauqua but still scratching my head on what the line-up actually is.
It says Bruce with Sonny so is it just piano and drums?
I’m sure they’ll open for Metheny and come out for a couple songs but hopefully it will be the Noisemakers but if it is just Bruce & Sonny then I guess that’ll still be something special.

edit: as for those guys that somehow think Bob Weir’s voice sucks…then you should hear any recording from this past Ratdog tour as he sounded better than ever and you will easily change your mind…that Bruce/Bobby thing will be sweet.

Put me down for waiting for Bruce W/ Noisemakers also.

I’m not a fan of Skaggs or other band as it distracts from Bruce and becomes a 2 billing show. Even if they play songs together..

I guess I’ve been spoiled over the years with Noisemakers shows and really love their chemistry

I loved Chautauqua a few years ago but I don’t expect a Bruce/Sonny opening act (OK I got my email blast at last, but still… how much do you want without a little help from the band?)- despite any other combination being possible. Meanwhile, a day later after the presale offered me a seat on row N, at the Frederick Brown Jr. website selling via ticketalternative, I found single seats available on row A (right behind the noisy $600 table folks) and E, so my advice is don’t get screwed by the “presales” from Crowdsurge!
