I think mine has to be Bonnie Raitt, a perfect combination of Vocal, lyrics and Bruce doing a great job as always, his piano and her voice is the song. It’s not just an accompaniment. A close second is Shawn Colvin.

    What is yours?

My favorite collaboration would definitely have to be when Bruce plays with Bob Weir. I love Weir’s voice and anytime to have Bruce play GD tunes with an alum is great in my book, especially when its good ol’ Bobby Weir. Too bad their tour together a few months ago was canceled, that would have been a hell of a time. Weir is a very under-rated guitar player after being in Jerry’s shadow all those years and when he plays acoustic with Bruce’s piano its such musical bliss. Hopefully those two will collaborate again soon.

One of my favorite collaborative moments was when Bruce duo’d with Trey Anastasio and played Standing On The Moon at the Comes A Time tribute to Jerry Garcia back in ’05…just beautiful stuff.

Also, one guy I that I wish Bruce would collaborate with would be Dave Matthews.

Dave Matthews is an interesting Idea! I think they would make some pretty awesome music!. Especially when they throw some horns in. Could be very cool. Actually little off topic but, I was watching a Vh1 special that Bruce did and noticed a trumpet player and a different Bass guitar player..looked like it was from the 90s. Anyone know who these guys were?

Jimmy Haslip and John D’Earth are my guess as that was who was in the band at that time, but without seeing it I can’t say. I’ll have to search for the video and watch it to know…but without seeing it I’ll throw those names out there.
I wonder if Bruce and Dave ever crossed paths seeing that they are both from Virginia too completely different towns but I’m sure they played near each other at some point.

I think you’re right about these guys. Very cool!. Hey Si, I’ve got a website idea. What you think about getting a list together of who Bruce has played with over the years? Generations of the bands (Sonny, Molo,JT,JV,Bobby etc.) I know there’s the Wiki Section, but I was thinking more a breakdown on the Bands.Timeline

1984-1991 Bruce Hornsby and the Range
    Members List

1998-2013 Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers
    Members list

    etc.

I like Bruce’s collaboration with Paul Brady on “Lakes of Ponchatrain” during the 1989 Telluride Bluegrass Festival. It’s one of my favorite Daily Doses. Wish they would play together again.

Off the top of my head I particularly enjoy Bruce with Chris Thile. Bruce and Punch Brothers have the same management so I hope there’s more to come in that regard.

The band members timeline sounds like a great idea for a project. Stay tuned…!

Hey Si, when you have a minute could you expand upon the Richards/Baker/Bonaparte transitions, just in this thread, doesn’t have to be in that article (which is awesome btw, thanks for that!).

So Richards played with the band for only a few months? Did he leave on his own, did Bruce want someone else?

And then Baker was on for basically only one tour? Is that true?

And then Bonaparte is there for about 3 years? Why did he leave? Again was it Bruce’s choice or Bonny’s?

I’ve always been interested in this timeline.

Actually, I know very little about that. I believe Land was only a temporary agreement, but really have no idea. I’ve never met hi mor Michael Baker, who was last heard of in Italy, I believe.

Really no idea, I’m afraid! Anyone else?
