It is my fiduciary duty to crank up the crowd! The ‘natives’ have been very restless! Road Scholars cranked you engines! The Show Goes On!!!
Not that I under appreciated Bobby, but since his departure it’s become even more apparent how vital he was to this band. Virtually every song benefited from the ewi or sax. And so many songs feel so empty without it – Great Divide, What a Time, Rainbow’s Cadillac, WWL, etc, etc. But obviously that’s done by design and a change in the bands sound that Bruce wants – otherwise the changes wouldn’t have been made.
Last summer was such a small sample of shows, plus with the learning curve from the news guys, it felt like we didn’t get a true sense of the new band’s sound. With nearly 20 shows this summer (hopefully even a few more) I feel like we’ll get a pretty good idea of the direction this band is heading. I’m definitely excited to hear it, but will definitely miss Bobby and Doug.
I can’t get into the new sound…it’s like taking a few steps back.
I had a good time at the show but listening to it again on recording it shows how much Doug & Bobby brought to the songs.
I also hate how much Bruce lets Gibb play when he had Doug on such a short leash.
There are a few Noisemakers shows I can go to this summer but I’m having a hard time finding myself wanting to drive 5 hours to hear/watch a mediocre violin player play Bobby’s parts.
I’m seeing Bruce in 4 days…solo style so that may be my only Bruce fix til the Grateful Dead 50th reunion.Whom I kidding its still Bruce and his music…just a lesser quality than I’m used to…I’ll probably still go to at least one Noisemakers show this summer…hopefully
