Been listening to a lot of Range days lately, 87-90 Era. Noticed stylistically, Bruce really seemed to stick pretty close to the record, with a few improv jams mixed in. I’m sure he was feeding off the success of the record and knew people wanted to hear it like it.

Curious when he seemed to crossover into the Bruce we know today, who basically plays it most of the time nowhere near the record…

I’d guess that the improvisational tendencies have always been there, but early in a career, after a first hit record, probably isn’t the time to do it. Not to the extent that we hear today, anyway.

A lot came after playing and opening the the Grateful Dead.

I’d say it all started when Bobby Hi-Test needed a Octane Kid to play keys.
