ParticipantThis was a great night in Munhall or Homestead depending who you ask.
The venue was recently featured on Ghost Hunters as it is haunted. It will be aired again on Halloween at 11am.
Anyways, this is one of my favorite venues to see a show as it is a 113 year old haunted library on top of a hill and is a nice intimate theatre to see a show. Unfortunately, last nights show was almost half full but that didn’t stop the boys from a great musical adventure for the ones that did show up. This was the final show of the tour.Setlist:
10/15/11
Carnegie Library Music Hall
Munhall/Homestead, PA–set one–started at 8:10 – 9:15
Little Sadie >
White Wheeled Limousine >
(Long Black Veil)
Sunflower Cat >
It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry > (Green Tambourine)
Lost in the Snow
End of the Innocence
Valley Road
Valley Road (again but, on the dulcimer and Moyes on washboard) Bruce considered this the ‘new’ version
Prairie Dog Town (on the dulcimer)….this was a really rocked out version and had a few addition lyrics…best one I’ve heard–set two–started at 9:40 – 11
Soon Enough (solo piano)
Fortunate Son (started solo piano and then eventually the band comes out)
Boo Radley
Down the Road >
(We’re having a Party) >
The Longest Night
Pete & Manny (on the accordion) >
Barcelon Mona
The Way It Is–encore–
Children of Zion > Candy Mountain Run
–encore 2–
Nobody There but Me >
Mandolin Rain >
(Brokedown Palace) >
Resting PlaceMoyes Lucas filled in for Sonny on drums as Sonny was on tour with his band Cachet Fusion
All in all this was a stellar show and the band was on fire.
This was a great show as the final gig of the tour.
I thought Moyes did great filling in for Sonny, he even did a great solo.
I had front row center but really couldn’t see much only the tops of everybodies heads as the piano and JT’s triple decker were basically touching and everybody were behind that. So my pictures are not that great, but I will still post some.
I met HDbahn at the show and had some great and interesting conversations with him. It was great meeting you and chatting in up. Good times
As usual, I met the band before the show, but this time I got to go on the tour busIt was great talking with Bruce and JV on their bus and Bruce introduced me to Moyes. They signed two posters and posed for some pictures. I asked Bruce if he ever signed a baseball as I was handing him one and to my surprise he said that he has signed a lot of baseballs.
I asked Bruce if he could play ‘Lost in the Snow’ and he asked Moyes if he knew that one and Moyes said yeah, so then Bruce said great you’ll get it. I thanked them and left with a great concert memory that I will cherish always.I requested quite a few songs but got:
Lost in the Snow
Resting Place(I yelled it out as he was coming back out for the second encore break, he nodded at me so I knew it was coming)
Down the Road Tonight
The Longest Night
….and I am totallywith that

ParticipantMoyes brought a significantly different feel to several of the songs. I spoke to Wayne Pooley and he described it as “softer” drum work. The change was fun–it seemed Bruce and Moyes had a good time with it too.
I thought Bruce and the band came out with a roar starting with the rockin version of White Wheeled Limousine, and they never took their foot off the accelerator. The dulcimer version of Valley Road connected with everyone. My daughter usually likes the studio versions better, but she was all smiles starting with WWL.
I was at Munhall 2 years ago and thought that was the best Bruce show I’d ever seen. (Really appreciate the download version.) But at Munhall 2011 Bruce and the band were so creative, and Moyes brought enough of a new perspective, that I had an even better time than in 2009. I hope Bruce makes the recording available.
I had seats third row, right in front of Bruce. As always Brucce had some great interaction with the audience. The gentleman in front of me asked Bruce what songs he doesn’t like to play. Bruce’s answer: Every Little Kiss. I gave several shouts for King of the Hill, but not to be.
Great night.October 17, 2011 at 12:11 am #33054PAOIL
ParticipantOh, and I bought a handful of tickets for the signed poster in the lobby, but didn’t win … so looking forward to your raffle.

ParticipantAwesome! How did you get to meet Bruce before the show and go on the tour bus? I’ jealous that he played Longest Night for you, I’d love to hear that live and in person. And very interesting about Bruce not liking to play Every Little Kiss. I requested that at the last show I was at, and he didn’t play it. Now I know why lol. Any recordings from the show? Also, what songs had a different feel with Moyes on drums?

ParticipantInteresting that Wayne used the word “softer” as I get more of a a “rock” feel from Moyes. Also, this was the first time I’ve heard the bass drum mixed so loud (but not noisy) and it was well used to puncuate. I’m not sure if there was plastic or sweat mixed with the splinters, but during WWL there were fragments flying and eventually Moyes did a flawless stick grab while tossing the broken one into the curtain behind. Good to meet GGOON and now I know I was sitting next to PAOIL and daughter.

I caught Moyes with the NMs at Foxwoods — I was a bit disappointed to learn that Sonny wasn’t gonna be there. I shoulda trusted BH, ’cause I was very impressed with ML. And yes, I got a rock vibe from him; a very well-played and exacting vibe, heavy rockish with finesse, shall we say? (Aside — where the hell does BH find all of these kickass batterymates? Does JV have the hookup? Can you imagine the tryouts? What about the drummer’s frame of mind when he discovers, if previously unaware, the depth of BH’s tunes?)
Glad youse guys had fun —

ParticipantYeah, the shredding of drumsticks was pretty funny to see from Moyes. I think he did a good job and wonder how many songs that they played that he didn’t know and just winged it. I did miss Sonny’s drumstick magic solo but Moyes put on a nice solo of his own.
Honestly, I wasn’t into the ‘new version’ of Valley Road. The song is such a jamming song that a stripped down slow version like that isn’t necessary. I have heard/seen Prairie Dog Town played a lot and this was easily the best version I ever heard. It was more rocking and jammed out than ever. The song is ok but this version was awesome.
This is my favorite venue but not my favorite place to see Bruce as the crowd doesn’t get into the grooves. Bruce told the crowd many times to dance if they want and only a few drunk chicks did but the security keep harassing them even when Bruce told them twice not to. It is hard for me to deal with sit down shows because it is draining to just sit there. I didn’t get my groove on because I was front row center and the dancing areas were basically more towards the back in the aisle…because Bruce stopped the show when ‘drunk chicks’ were harassed the second time and a whole few minute ordeal of assigning a dance area took place.
I liked this show a little better than the one two years ago because of the setlist. Both shows had stellar jamming. This one had more annoying people there for the wrong reasons though. Seriously, give it up on yelling Dead songs especially ones he has never played. I am one of the biggest Deadheads you will ever meet but I want to hear Bruce play his catalog but if he does play a GD song that would be awesome but I wont annoy him with yelling out Terrapin, Dark Star, Friend of the Devil, Sugar Magnolia, and the ever annoying yell for Jack Straw…like the crowd did Saturday…those were a few of the songs I heard yelled out.
I asked Wayne if this would be a show to be considered to be available for sale and he said most likely. So lets keep our fingers crossed.
The raffle they had for the autographed poster was sort of a joke because they didn’t tell you when they would do the drawing and also never announce who won as they picked a number then waited a minute or two, and then picked another number as the winner wasn’t present. They did this four times until someone that was at the drawing won.
I bitched about how shoddy that was and they gave me an unsigned poster because they felt bad. Its a cool poster too because it shows all the Noisemakers faces, a live shot from when they played this venue two years ago, and has the date and venue name on it. My next project is to get this poster signed by everybody under there face shots. How cool would that be.October 18, 2011 at 1:27 am #33059PAOIL
ParticipantHDbahn,
I see we’ve been to some of the same shows: Longwood, Potowatomi, and of course Munhall. Sorry we didn’t visit a little. Were you in row three to our right?
Bruce is growing on my daughter. I took wife and 4 children to Chautaqua a few years ago for my first show. I was amazed — they were bored. The gulf has grown wider since…except for daughter #2. I gave her Levitate; she got hooked on Low Country and she had a great time at Munhall. I may finally have a touring partner.October 18, 2011 at 1:57 pm #33060HDbahn
ParticipantYes, I was in B3. I loved that Chautauqua visit (where I was going to walk around the grounds but stopped for the great soundcheck! and met the once everpresent Lizzie). If that was your first, I understand why you were amazed, as I was with my first at Biltmore in 2002 (I shoulda known sooner since I’m only a couple years younger than Bruce!) Hope I’ll meet you down the road, as I am prone to boring total strangers with stories of “destroying the world (or continent, at least)” to see the Noisemakers. I wondered if Wayne Pooley enjoyed his perch at Longwood, I hope they return (and your ladies should love the serenity of the gardens). I also wondered if Bruce saw the music room in the Conservatory with the automated Grand Piano (I’m a sucker for a good lumber exhibit). I can’t believe what you found out about the drawing GG!!! GRRRRRR@#$%&*$#@ on their charity! I heard “We’ll POST the winning ticket”
