Fortunate SonThis was a great show! I really enjoyed it. Bruce was in good spirits and sounded great and played awesome.
The set list was good and thankfully he didn’t dive too deep into the SCKBSTD material like he kept doing during the Camp Fire tour with Metheny.
Of my requests he played: Country Doctor and China Doll. This was a sick ass China Doll…he jammed the hell out of it.
I can tell he was about to play another of my requests which was Sunlight Moon as he had my orange sheet in front of him and my lyrics that I printed out for him. He mentioned how that this next one is one that he hasn’t played in a while and that he was gonna playcate this guy(me) but then a bunch of folks had to ruin it by shouting about a bunch of random songs and he got sidetracked by some clown yelling out Fortunate Son. I was let down because I always wanted to get a Sunlight Moon and was about to finally get it only to get it changed to Fortunate Son.October 18, 2014 at 7:05 pm #34179avnut
ParticipantDifferent strokes…while I was aware of the Iverson story, I hadn’t heard Bruce tell it, so I thought it was kind of fun to hear him break it down.
I agree with you…it was a GREAT show. I heard China Doll in Columbus when he played with Bela a couple of years ago and before that, I hadn’t heard it live since the Cleveland Music Hall show in 1993. So when he mentioned that he was going to play something off of the Harbor Lights album that he doesn’t play a lot, my ears really perked up, wondering what it was going to be. So when he started playing China Doll, I was thrilled.
Great to hear “The Road Not Taken” as well. As far as the bit of “I’m Alive” that he slipped in, I wish he would have played the entire thing…I do think that there’s a good piano version of that lurking in there…but it was fun to hear at least a bit of it.
All in all, a really great setlist and show from Bruce. Sold out show. Hopefully he’ll be back to the Cleveland area really soon!

ParticipantYeah I hear ya…don’t get me wrong it’s always cool to hear Bruce in story teller mode but I heard the BHvsAI story three times over the years; once at a show, once after a show, and once on a recording of a show…so to me having that dude ask about it cost us one more song.
The dude should have asked Bruce the story in person instead of the way he went about it.
However, it is a pretty cool story to say the least. Also, that China Doll from Columbus 2011 was so damn good…he opened that show pretty hot with that one.
Bruce will be near Columbus in May so maybe he’ll have a Cleveland date by then as well.November 4, 2014 at 3:58 pm #34181HDbahn
ParticipantI’ll just give you my bastardized setlist from Victoria Theatre Dayton,OH on 10-18-14 since it was the next show…I had been to Kent before and this was a nice looking stage although downtown Dayton is pretty sparse except for some other performing venues nearby. Also met my third? ex-Williamsburger at a show, who shared pictures of the Hornsby family/band.
Look Out Any Window
The Tide Will Rise
Preacher In The Ring I
Hooray For Tom
Mandolin Rain (minor key)
Valley Road
End Of The Innocence
Invisible#
20/20 Vision>Darlin’ Corey>Night On The Town
The Way It Is
Spider Fingers
Life In The Psychotropics
Lady With A Fan>Across The River
Abraham, Martin and John[HASHTAG]#not[/HASHTAG] sure when that was played…
As usual, I don’t note the classical and technical bits you might assume.
Bruce said he used to listen to A,M and J on 45 repeatedly when he was 12 years old, but had never performed it- (but he has said a few things in memory fog before). He did manage to get Lady w/a Fan in proper order but maybe short a line or two. Also he narrated himself forgetting the Invisible line that once was ‘nothing but sucking”, maybe since there has been a more politically correct rewrite I heard on Youtube. -
