Night On The TownEncore:
Mandolin Rain (Minor Key)Here are a few things to note about the set-list:
- Anton Webern, Cantenaires (Bruce said it was something from Webern, but I’m not sure what, and he kind of mixed this in with Cantenaires, or went right into it.
- Schoenberg > Paperboy (I think I heard Bruce say it was something with a “Berg”, but I could be wrong. Could have been Bird Music, but I’ve heard it played before and don’t think it was.
- Questions and Answers went into about 2 lines of Every Little Kiss. Some woman from the audience had yelled it out earlier and Bruce gave the whole talk how he doesn’t play it anymore. But I guess part of Questions and Answers sounded like Every Little Kiss so he said “Here you go!” and sang a few lines of it. And then it continued back into Questions and Answers very briefly, and then back into Spider Fingers.
- Everything else should be accurate.
Comments:
- First off, an awesome show as always!
- This was only the second solo show of Bruce’s I’ve been to, but I enjoyed it just as much as the first. I’ll always prefer the Noisemakers no question, but seeing Bruce solo is such an awesome experience, and it’s cool to get to see a different side of his music; pulling from different areas of the library.
- I requested 3 songs: Sad Moon, Soon Enough, and Standing On The Moon > Halcyon Days. Bruce played Sad Moon per my request, which was awesome. I requested Standing On The Moon > Halcyon Days, funny enough not because of one or the other, but because I absolutely love the transition between the two songs. I kind of regret requesting it though because so many people request Standing On The Moon, and chances are Bruce would go into Halcyon Days anyways.
- I was contemplating requesting Longest Night or Mirror On The Wall instead of Standing On The Moon > Halcyon Days, but figured there was almost no chance Bruce would play either because he probably doesn’t consider them to be solo songs (I think both, especially Longest Night, would sound awesome though)
- I could be wrong on this, but Bruce’s voice sounded slightly raspy. Maybe I’m wrong, but it sounded like he had a slight sore throat. BUT, this took absolutely nothing away from his vocals. I was afraid he’d shy away from higher songs, but he didn’t. In fact, his vocals tonight were some of the best I’ve heard from him (I’m sure he’d disagree with this, but they were phenomenal)
- I spoke to Dagle after the show, asking if he was planning on releasing any more Dagle’s Choices in the near future or Live Noise. He kind of laughed and said he’s been lazy about doing that and has kind of forgotten about it. He said maybe in the spring, but it didn’t sound promising, which is extremely disappointing.

Excellent write-up, almost a standard-bearer if I may be so bold…
The SF>Q&A>ELK you all got makes me very, very envious…I could be wrong, but I think that BH has a clip of the Schoenberg/”Paperboy” number up on his Vimeo site.
Sore throat, huh? Sounds like BH’s got a bit of that late fall East Coast cough that many of us have suffered through.
