Three Rivers Arts Festival
FREE CONCERT4:00 VAN GHOST opened…with Jennifer Hartswick of Trey Anastasio Band fame.
I really enjoyed these guys. They had some catchy tunes and kept me entertained in the blazing sun…I picked the wrong day to wear my black ’04 Halcyon Days tour shirt as by the time Bruce came on I had conjoining pit stains.6:00 BRUCE HORNSBY & THE NOISEMAKERS
setlist:
Across the Great Divide
Resting Place
Space is the Place
Mandolin Rain >
Black Muddy River
NEW SONG(possibly ‘Might As Well Be Me’) Bruce teased one line from one of three new songs he wrote with Robert Hunter. All I caught was Dixie something cash my paycheck…it was literally about one line of the song and he never said the name of it.
Cyclone
Drunken Hiccups > (dulcimer)
Valley Road (dulcimer)
Defenders of the Flag (accordion)
Big Rock Candy Mountain >
Candy Mountian Run
Tango King
The Way It Is7:30 Bruce announces he can’t do an encore due to festival curfew 😥
It was a short show but the setlist and performance made up for it.
Bruce played 3 of my requests: Divide, Resting, & Tango.
This was an awesome way to spend my 34th birthday.
I talked with Bruce before and after the show and he wished me a happy birthday
This was a great venue…at a park in the middle of an art festival.
There were many artist booths everywhere…with some unrealistic prices 🙄
I was happy how huge the crowd got since I first took my place at the rail at 3:45.
I was riding that rail infront of Bruce in that blazing sun sweating it out…good timesJune 11, 2012 at 5:20 pm #33374goaves
ParticipantGuiness Goon,
That must have been you next to me the whole time. I think I handed you a request with Swing Street on it to have Chuck Keith set on the stage. It was a scorcher! I was there around 4 PM waiting. Can’t wait till Thursday’s show! I have the VIP pass for afterwards too.

Yeah that was me 😆
Its a shame he didn’t bust out your song. You’re right about a scorcher man that was some brutal sun….I will never understand how Bruce can play with long sleeves in that kind of heat.
I hope that video that dude was recording of the show gets out there, plus I seen 2 or 3 tapers. I talked to the one guy and he said he plans on putting it up on etree so that’ll be nice.
I’ll be hitting up the Rochester show too, its a 4 hour drive for me, but I’ll be there riding the rail.
Sometime today I’m gonna purchase the VIP pass for the show…..I have a nice poster that needs some signatures and since I grew a shoddy beard I need to update a picture of me with Bruce.
See ya there!June 11, 2012 at 6:38 pm #33376goaves
ParticipantYeah, I don’t know how he wasn’t sweating like we were the whole time! Hopefully it isn’t as hot in rochester as it was there. Just a heads up on parking for the Rochester show since I’ve lived in the area most of my life, there is a parking garage not too far from the venue. That is your best bet to park since it’s indoors and they usually have a flat rate. There are some side streets around the area too that are free, but that will fill up fast. The cost is only $2 for the show which is only the facility fee and the location is in a giant parking lot.
The other memorable note from the Pittsburgh show was some crazy drunk guy who kept talking to random people during the Van Ghost set. I was glad he wasn’t around for the Bruce show driving everyone up front crazy
There will be a lot of deadheads at the show as well so we can expect Jack Straw will probably be yelled out again
I’ll try to have a better piece of paper to write swing street on. That is one that has not been played in years!

Yeah I seen that guy bugging you guys 😆
He was juiced and that was like what 4 o’clock in the afternoon…he was definitely blacked-out…rambling stuff to people and he kept yelling stuff to Van Ghost. At one point he was holding up a guitar pick ranting about something to the band.
Luckily that guy probably passed out somewhere before Bruce came on.I think we will always have the ‘Jack Straw yellers’ at any Bruce show. When I hear that request it instantly makes me think that person isn’t much a Bruce fan, because they should know he doesn’t want to play that song especially when it’s yelled to him. I am a huge deadhead but when I go see Bruce I look forward to hear his music…but if he wants to play a GD tune then thats just a bonus, even though I did ask him before the show to play ‘Loser’
and he told me he doens’t think the band will remember it as they haven’t played it for 8 years…then he told me he’ll play it with Bobby Weir at All Good.
Thanks for the Rochester info. I just bought the VIP for that show. Can’t wait!!!

What I do is I usually hit up a craft shop like Pat Catan’s and get bright colored paper to make my requests on…so that it not only stands out, but I can also tell when he’s looking at my request. I usually hurry up and take a picture when he’s reading my request
I found this paper that is basketball print and I wrote ‘Please take me to the Old Playground’. I kinda figured he wouldn’t play it but it would have been pretty cool to have a pop-rock moment as its one of my favs from the Range era.June 13, 2012 at 3:19 am #33379Highway_61

Nope not really…but being the Bruce snob :ugeek: that I am…I do sometimes get annoyed if someone gets a request fulfilled that is a song I don’t want to hear or have heard too many times….those I won’t name.
A great performance can get tarnished by a subpar setlist due to ‘not so good’ requests by casual fans…yeah I know that sounds snobby 😆 but seeing that I usually have to drive a few hours to see BH I hope for an awesome setlist on top of a great performance. Don’t get me wrong I love all of Bruce’s songs but there are some I don’t really feel like hearing over others.June 14, 2012 at 4:24 am #33381Highway_61
ParticipantThose of you who drive great distances and go to multiple shows are truly devoted fans.
Maybe a peripheral V.I.P-type of perk could be one in which song requests would get bumped up the “song request ladder” based on the number of current tour ticket stubs are stapled to the request sheet.

But, the Top 40 requests get to me.
Even if I want to hear WWL, End of the Innocence, Way it Is, etc, I’ll never request it because I know there’s a good chance they will be played.
I’m all about requesting songs that you almost never hear Bruce play; on the small chance that he does play them, it’s incredible.
Swing Street
Longest Night
Sad Moon
Red Plains
