Big RumbleI arrived to the venue really early…parked at 2ish and then ventured to Dinosaur BBQ which was really good. Got back to the venue arround 3:40ish to see/hear Bruce on stage doing soundcheck. They were playing GD’s Tennessee Jed. There was nobody around except a few staff workers setting up booths and stuff. I don’t know what other songs they soundchecked before as after 10aC Jed they left stage and went back on the bus.
This show was in a parking lot next to the Genessee River with a bridge and freeway behind the stage.
There was this pretty weird burned out dude(who really liked talking and repeating himself)before the show who during the process of the opening bands unknowingly earned the name 12 pack as he literally drank 12 beers before Bruce even came on. I lost count how many he drank during Bruce but I ran into him later and he seemed completely normal and not as strange. There were two opening bands…the first one was Amanda Lee & Driftwood Sailors…they were a local act who won a contest to be the opening band. The second opener was Van Ghost, who was also the opener for BH in Pittsburgh, I really enjoy this band and will see them if they come to my neck of the woods.
Bruce’s set was only about 1 hour and 40 minutes.
This was the first time I didn’t get a request played….I threw out like 6 or 7 songs and not a single one got played.
I asked him about it during the VIP afterwards why he didn’t play my songs(Passing Through & Harbor Lights) and he said that they haven’t played those songs in awhile. He remembered me from Pittsburgh and said he’s sorry that he repeated some songs which I really didn’t mind. Although, I did like PA’s setlist a little more than this show, but both performances were top notch.June 15, 2012 at 7:12 pm #33383JF1

I admit that has happened to me a few years back…I saw Sad Mood on the setlist of a recording I was downloading but my eyes read Sad Moon so I was all excited then when I went to write out the setlist for the cd while the cd was burning I then noticed there was a ‘d’ at the end of Moo and not a ‘n’…that one letter can make a big difference.

KeymasterI wonder if closing with Big Rumble was a tribute to a departed friend. Tony “Big Rumble” Merriman was a regular at the Kentucky shows.

I didn’t even think we’d get an encore because in Pittsburgh he played right to the curfew and couldn’t do an encore.June 19, 2012 at 9:03 am #33390Si Twining

ParticipantActually, Si, I did hear Bruce mention that he had a departed friend named after the song, but I can’t tell you at which show I heard it…so trusting GG it must have been KY!

We traded a few times and talked a bunch and he seemed like a great person and a passionate BH fan.

Can’t believe you came Across the River to Des Moines and MN! If so…..You must be ‘honored’ to join the ranks of a true Road Scholar! 😆 I did have a ‘pow wow’ to put Pastures of Plenty back on the ‘play list’! It was confirmed that it was a good idea, but needed to be practiced once again. I have a gut feeling that it will!
Congratulations on your new status! As a true Road Scholar…..You are ‘charged’ with continuing to report on your journeys!
Long live Tony! He would call me at least once a week to see what I was up too! The Big Rumble!!! A true friend and diehard KY Kat fan!!! He wil be remembered!
Still having’ a ball!
