ParticipantYesterdays ‘Buffalo Rocks the Harbor’ concert was great.
The opener was this girl and her guitar…Samantha Stollenwerck. She did a great job starting off what was definitely going to be a great evening. I talked with her afterwards and she was really down to earth and really funny. I probably could’ve gotten her number but the next act was Martin Sexton just got on stage.
Martin Sexton did a great set and was pretty entertaining. He’s got some great songs and I had a fun time watching him perform. I met Mr. Sexton a little bit before Samantha got on stage. He was really cool and also a real down to earth person. We chatted for a bit and he signed my poster and then we were interupted by some drunk goon who wanted a sweaty man hug. So I thanked him for his time and I jokingly told him ‘I guess I’ll leave you two alone’ and left. He laughed and said thanks for my time and told me to have fun. Which I did.
So Bruce and the boys finally get on stage. As this unfortunately being my only BH show so far this year, I was not only pumped as hell but really hoping he’d play a few of my requests which he did do a couple.
So here is what they played:Big Rock Candy Mountain >
Children of Zion >
Candy Mountain Run
Funhouse >
He’s Gone >
You Sexy Thing
Prairie Dog Town (with Bruce playing the Dulcimer)
Drunken Hiccups >
Black Rats of London
–Bruce played Happy Birthday on the piano for Jerry Garcia(what would have been his 67th bday)
Sunflower Cat >
It Takes Alot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry > (teased Genesis’s ‘Thats All’)
Boo Radley
The Show Goes On (with false start and Bruce laughing and saying ‘I’m starting over’)
Lady With A Fan >
Across the River
The Way It Is
Rainbow’s CadillacE: Valley Road
Standing On The Moon >
Here We Are AgainAlso somewhere during the show Bruce teased the crowd by asking them if they wanted to hear ‘Jack Straw’ it was funny but mean because I got teased as well.
Anyways, the show was stellar and everyone was on. I got some killer front row pictures and when I get a chance I will put them up to share. The pictures are mostly of Bruce, JV, and Doug as I was riding the rail and couldn’t see Bobby, Sonny, and JT. So the ones of Bobby, Sonny, and JT are basically the tops of their heads. I wanted to go back a few rows and get the whole band but forgot. Maybe next time.
Before and after the show we met and chatted with everyone from the band.
This was my 7th time meeting and talking with Bruce. He is always a pleasure to chat with. I meet famous people all the time and I got to say that Bruce is my favorite to meet and he is one of the most down to earth guys. He really appreciates his fans. Great guy and so is all the members of the Noise Makers. They laughed at me because I had them sign the insert of their dvd ‘Three Nights on the Town’.
I hope everyone that got a chance to go to this show had a blast like I did.August 2, 2009 at 9:28 pm #31215Takavl
ParticipantHey GG–
Great review, thanks for the write-up. I’m jealous…but then again, I’m usually jealous of every show that I can’t make.
You mention that they teased a Genesis tune — “Same Old Song.” To the best of my knowledge, (the era from Peter and Phil to Phil) they have no such song so named…maybe I’m missing a lyric or something? And p’raps the tune that they went into after “Moon” was “Halcyon Days”? It’s what generally follows…

My bad. It was a Genesis song and I think its called ‘Thats All’…the lyric ‘its just a shame thats all’ i must have misunderstood and thought he sang that same old song.
…and no the song after ‘SOTM’ wasn’t ‘Halcyon Days’. I would be pretty lame if I didn’t know that seeing that Halcyon Days is my favorite record 😆
I do know the song but I was too busy taking pictures and didn’t write it down and now for the life of me I can’t think of the name….mostly because it wasn’t a song that I jam often. I even went and sampled every song from the albums and nothing sounded familar. So hopefully there was someone there who remembers what it was and can fill in the last song of the setlist.
Also, ‘SOTM’ was supposed to go into ‘Mandolin Rain’ as Doug had his mandolin prepared but didn’t get to play it. I asked Doug about it after the show and he said that they were going to play ‘Mandolin Rain’ but at the last second Bruce changed his mind.

Yeah, that’s “That’s All.” Interesting that BH is quoting Genesis tunes now in the “Sunflower” medley…
And BTW, thanks for not blasting me on my “Halcyon” semi-condescension…you’re too kind! 😆 I guess I shoulda looked at yer ‘fave Hornsby’ slot… 😳

ParticipantT,
I hear ya.
My favorite song from that album is ‘Lost in the Snow’ and I threw out three request for it hoping Bruce would think that at least three people wanted to hear it so that he’d bust it out but he didn’t.
I guess next time I write out 12 request in all different hand-writing and different color pen and marker then maybe he might play it 😆 .
I never got to see him play ‘Lost in the Snow’ with the Noise Makers…I only got to see him play it a two solo shows. So I’ve been chasing it for the past five years now.
Also when I was rapping with him I forgot to ask him about that song. I had it planned on what I wanted to say but I spaced out and babbled some other stuff instead of what I wanted to say.
Maybe next time -
