ParticipantThis article was in yesterday’s Daily Press (http://www.dailypress.com/news/local/dp-baydayslineup,0,7943831.story):

Hampton Bay Days, which takes place Sept. 5-7 in downtown Hampton, announced its full musical lineup today, and it’s a diverse group.
Headliners Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs were announced in February. Joining them will be:
Third World, Jamaican reggae superstars best known for their cover of The Ojay’s “Now That We Found Love” and their work with Stevie Wonder.
Tony! Toni! Tone!, which received mega-success in the early ’90s with hits like “Feels Good,” “Anniversary” and “It Never Rains in Southern California.”
Los Angeles-based modern rock band dada, which had hits “Dizz Knee Land” and “Dim.” In 2006, dada released the EP “A Friend of Pat Robertson” and have continued touring to support their music.
Con Funk Shun, a high-energy funk band. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the group dominated music charts with 20 hit singles, including eight Top 10 R & B hits such as “Ffun” and “Love’s Train.”
Ann Arbor-based quintet, Tally Hall, which draws inspiration from the pioneers of new wave music. Tally Hall tracks have tracks have been featured on The Real World Key West and The O.C.[/list:u:6c602]
From The Bay Days web site (http://www.baydays.com/), I was able to glean the following details:-
Schedule:
[list:6c602]Friday, September 5
[list:6c602]6:30 pm Tally Hall
8:30 pm dadaSaturday, September 6
-
4:00 pm Third World
6:00 pm ConFunkShun
8:00 pm Tony! Toni! Tone!Sunday, September 7
-
2:00 pm Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder with Bruce Hornsby
4:00 pm Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers[/list:u:6c602]
For those who would prefer a seat to watch the performances, Gold Row seating is available for $5.00 per seat per performance on a first-come, first-served basis. A VIP refreshment area is also available for Gold Row seating.
Lawn chairs are welcome. However,, for safety purposes, no pets (other than service animals), coolers, glass containers, nicycles, roller-skates or roller-blades, skateboards, personal golf carts or miniature motorized vehicles (other than necessary handicap devices) will be allowed at Bay Days.[/list:u:6c602]
Once I can get more details, I’ll put together maps for folks coming for the Sunday shows that will detail the parking spots and any other advice I can come up with. I think I may need to buy one of those silly hats that looks like a crab and use that to get my request to Bruce (which will include having him wear the thing).– Rich

I need some details! 😆 It appears it’s way too far for me to “Road Warror” it, but maybe, just maybe, I can still make it!
What is the closest airport? Is it Newport News?? Is there a hotel within “walkin distance”? I see where “lawn chairs” are allowed. Mind if I ship you a couple of chairs?? Plez shoot me an e-mail!
I have an idea! ❗ Instead of having a “meet up”, since the first show is at 2:00, maybe we should have a “meet after”?
: As far as I know, that would be the the first “meet after” ever! 😆 What do you think about that?
:
Maybe, just maybe, daverich would show!
Now that would be really cool!
Get the picture!…..Rich, daverich, MVF, Bryan, Trent, Treah, Kat, gdwoman, not to metion Carey, Marc, bigrumble, Country Doctor, and…..well, you never know who might show!

ParticipantWish I could make it. Sounds like such fun. Already commited to Oregon and the casino.
But if plans change and I find extra money at the end of a rainbow somewhere maybe I can plan another side trip.Take care all and have a great time.
Looking foward to my first Noisemakers show.Monica Lynne

ParticipantI don’t think I’m going to make it either.
I’ve been fortunate enough to see Bruce twice this year already,so there’s really not much to be sad about!
(Except not getting to see everyone at the “meet-after”…)

The more I think about it ❗ , the more I can’t help but think that this may, just maybe, be one for the “history books”!
Hometown favorite with back to back shows. No one else scheduled on Sunday.
Do you really think Bruuuce will stop playing at 6:00?
: I don’t think so!
Like I said before, “one for the history books”!
Maybe Bryan can give us some “inside scoop”!
As you can tell, I’m beginning to get “fired up” for this one!
I’m getting a sense of “you don’t want to miss it”!
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 😆
Like I said before, if daverich can make it
, then……….

The closest hotel to the festival area is the Hampton Marina Hotel, formerly the Radisson. They are on the web at http://www.hamptonmarinahotel.com, and their phone number is (757) 727-9700. This hotel is right in downtown Hampton, and is just a few short blocks from the stage where Bruce will be playing.
The next closest hotels are all near the Hampton Coliseum, right where I-64 and Mercury Blvd. intersect. In that cluster, you’ll find:
-
Courtyard by Marriot (phone: (757) 838-3300)
Clarion Hotel (phone: (757) 838-5011)
Days Inn (phone: (757) 826-4810).
Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center (phone: (757) 838-0200), and
Red Roof Inn (phone: (757) 838-9999)Adjacent to that cluster is the new Embassy Suites (http://www.embassysuiteshampton.com, phone (757) 827-8200).
From all of those hotels, it is a short drive to the festival area, although it’s probably not a bad idea to save yourself the parking headaches and take the HRT bus to downtown Hampton. The depot is also just a few short blocks from the stage where Bruce will be playing. The #102 bus goes through ever hour at 10 minutes before the hour, the #114 bus goes through every half-hour at :15 and :45 (except on Sundays, when it’s ever hour at :15), and the #118 bus goes through every hour on the half hour.
Not far away, on Mercury Blvd., but on the other side of I-64, is the La Quinta Inn (phone: (757)827-8680).
Someone asked where the closest airport is. The closest is Newport News-WIlliamsburg Airport (PHF), which is only about 10-15 miles from Hampton. The next closest is Norfolk International (ORF), which is about 20-25 miles, but you have to deal with traffic on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
Here is a map of the area, highlighting where the hotels are, where the festival is, where the stage is, and, if needed, where the HRT bus depot is and where the two airports are: [attachment=0:17ff6]baydays.jpg[/attachment:17ff6]

Dave, You should keep a log of your trip, including pics, and we can get the “Dave Rich Bay Days Trip” page up somewhere for all to read. All minute details would be cool, like what flight you were on, what tunes were in the iPod, your impressions of our silly little city, etc.

Participanthmm,
i wonder why i wrote “I wonder if bruce will” at the end of that post,- very random indeed!
anyway,-
I shall certainly be bringing my camera with it’s nuclear batteries (not really,- its Li-ion, but they go on forever!) – I think it holds 800 hi quality pics, should be enough hehe.
Not sure about writing a journal though,- that would mean putting down my beer wouldn’t it?
Hmm, I must remember- it’s probably not cool to be drunk when meetings ones childhood hero!
Kind regards

ParticipantRich, thanks for the info on hotels!
Looks like the Marina Bay Hotel is the place to be!
If daverich can make it to the Hampton Bay Hotel, then…..I must also!Since daverich can’t bring his piano over for Bruce to sign, then maybe, just maybe, daverich needs to bring some signed daverich band T’s!
Check it out! http://www.daverichband.com You will like it!

Lake Lanier, GAAbsolutely. It wouldn’t be Bay Days without a constant supply of the long, tall, and cool. If we’re lucky, the folks from St. George Brwery, Hampton’s microbrewery, will be peddling their wares from the side of a truck again. Mmmmmmmm!

– RichSpeaking of “journals” and “micro brews”, I’ve been keeping a journal of “micro brews” along the “Bruce Trail”. The best so far is Knoxville!
Home of the “big orange”! 😆 In the #2 spot is Chattanooga, home of the Tivoli show!
(Maybe, just maybe, I’ll finally get a response from Vic on that one!
) Maybe, just maybe, St. George Brewery is better?
:
Why not you and Bryan plan a “meet after” that has some of St. George’s best!
I know daverich would like that! 😆 Who knows! You never know who might show up! 😆

Very helpful!
But, how do you get there from here? 😆
David Day
Lake Lanier, GAPS Where is St. George’s best located? 😆
August 6, 2008 at 3:16 am #29853trent
ParticipantI’m sure most of the watering holes in downtown Hampton will be absolutely packed during the festival, but for the brave there is the appropriately named Taphouse. It’s located in the southern end of the festival area on Rich’s map. There are 30-40 microbrews on tap (I’d be shocked if some variety of St. George isn’t among them). Failing that, there is Goody’s which is practically next door to the Taphouse. Goody’s is a smaller narrow joint that features the St. George as well as cheap Pabst.
I’ve only been to downtown Hampton a handful of times so I’m sure I’m leaving some great places out…
August 6, 2008 at 8:50 am #29854daverich
ParticipantI’m really interested in the breweries (see youtube, search for dave rich band and rail ale trail),-
are there any proper beers? with hops and stuff, you know like our real ales, or is it mostly lager type beers?
Kind regards
Dave Rich
