ParticipantIsn’t this the 5th year anniversary of Big Swing Face?
I was listening to XM Cafe on my screen porch this evening and couldn’t believe what I was hearing!
“So Out” on Big Swing Face!
I had not heard it in so long that I had forgotten about it. I had to even check the digital print out to make sure it was in fact Bruce.
Now that you have been “stretched” a little with Camp Meeting, (Have you had your daily dose of “Stacked Mary Possum” today?) check out “So Out” on Big Swing Face!
Put it on a good sound system and crank it up!
I think you will really like it!
(Again?
)
Let me know what you think!

I pulled out BSF a few weeks ago (just after I told Si I was gonna take a crack at The Chill for the next tribute collection) and was amazed at how fresh the sound is. WHen it first came out, I think we were all expecting a “Brucie” album and might have lost sight of how cool it is all on its’ own. I agree with David… if you haven’t given this disc a spin lately, do. Taken as what it is, and not what it was expected to be, this is a really excellent, creative, and well produced album – and an enjoyable listen.

“So Out”. is my favorite song from Big Swing Face! “Fluorescent flaccid floppy-haired gleamers
Saccharine silver-foil dreamers
Black light swinging five people singing
Around and around and my ears are ringing…”I listen to XM Cafe all the time,Ican’t believe I missed it,oh well, maybe next time…

Check out “So Out” on BSF!
I’m a tellin ya! 😆
You need to put it on a good sound system and crank it up!
You really do!
“Smoking on a pink pacifier”
“????????? in a hair dryer”
“This is so out but I like it”
“So outside but I’m in”……This is almost like some old Floyd lyrics!
Rich is right! This is some very creative stuff!
Sometimes you need to take a step back and take a look back!
You will be amazed at what you hear that you didn’t hear before!

Lake Lanier, GAPS Doug has some great rhythm guitar here also. Normally, he is more of a lead guitar type of guy.
This makes it even more creative!

ParticipantI have to agree on this one. When I bought this CD and first listened to it…I thought this is a side of Bruce thats different….but after a while…it was that same addicting thing I always get. Big Swing Face grew on me just like all the good stuff Bruce does. So I’d have to say Big Swing Face is one of my favorites now actually. I don’t really have a favorite off the album…I like them all. Hard to have a favorite with Bruce…I like all the stuff he does. It just gets better and more addicting the more you listen to it.

ParticipantTake out the trash
Take out the trash
Watch your stanky finger
Want to smell your finger
Wallowing in the funk
Wallowing in the stank
With your friend Hank
He’s wallowing in the stank……. 😆 😆 😆Does it get any better than this? 😆 This is very creative!

ParticipantNow we just need to convince Bruce that it really was a very cool album that wears quite well over the years. Check tou this chart… I did an unscientific survey of the BruceBase to see how often BSF songs were played in shows, and it looks like he’s pretty much distanced himself from the album as early as a year after it came out. I charted total shows and times each song was played in each year from 2002 (release year) to 2007 (now date). “So Out”, which we seem to agree on being a very cool song, has only been played ONCE ever, and that was last August, in Charlotte. Maybe we need to request more BSF songs so he can see how much it is liked (at least among us). The chart is below.

I requested “So Out” in Charlotte & “Sticks and Stones” this year in Greensboro. I think including a copy of the words to the song attached to the request shows that the request is a serious one,not just a last-minute idea. (Thanks for this tip,Si!).
Persistence is also a factor. I tried the “So Out” request in Asheville last year-no dice. But I repeated my request 2 nights later and my appeal was answred.

In fact, it’s outragious!
What great research and detail!
Sort of reminds me of a Ross Perot chart! 😆 😆 😆
(You were in diapers then! 😆 )Stay tuned!
I have an award coming to you from a true Road Scholar for such thought, research and creativity!
I like the way you think!
You should have come down to Boone!
I had a front row seat with your name on it.

I remember Ross Perot and his ears, uh, I mean charts. My wife and I were doing some work with the Clinton campaign back then. Thanks, Ross. You did us all a public service.

ParticipantI am rather obviously a fan of the Big Swing Face record, though I jumped off the bandwagon when I first heard clips from the album. Now, I’m trying to make up for my earlier lack of vision by recommending BSF at any opportunity. By the way, I heard Camp Meeting on the radio today — a local talk radio guy was using it as his “bumper” music (or whatever you call it) as he went into or came out of a break. Very cool to hear the jazz album on the radio.
Since this thread has taken a political turn, go to this Web site and see which presidential candidate you most match:

My top match: John Edwards; Score: 34. I’m staying in the Obama camp, though.

KeymasterI’m going to put up some BSF “doses” to match this thread.
I said when it was released that it was going to make for some killer extended jams, especially Take Out the Trash and Place Under the Sun. Happily I was proved right!
(Interesting footnote to Take Out the Trash – Bruce spoke of it as something of a throwaway song, no pun intended, and not one of his finest).

Maybe, just maybe, BSF was released before it’s time!
💡 ❗
What do you think?
: Was BSF released before it’s time?
: Maybe, just maybe, you needed to be “stretched” a little with “Camp Meeting” (Have you had your “daily dose” of “Stacked Mary Possum” today?) to be able to take a “look back” and appreciate it?

Check out “daily dose”! This is one you don’t want to miss for your archives!
It’s “daily dose” ‘0920002place”!
It has sorta (sort of a) “salsa” feel to it!
Does BSF and Camp Meeting have something in common?

Check it out! You will like it!

Lake Lanier, GAPS You need to crank this up big time!

ParticipantThose who were in Knoxville remember a great Darlin’ Corey > Place Under the Sun to open the show. I take credit for that because they were both requests of mine!
