Plane tickets from Denver purchased – hotel booked in CT – tickets for my wife for her birthday.

I am so sorry this happened to you! I was also planning to take my wife and her parents (it was our Christmas gift to them) since my father-in-law is a huge bluegrass fan and especially of Skaggs. My wife and I saw them Bruce and Ricky in New London last year and loved the show and were really disappointed when we got called this morning. However, I feel even worse for you!
Hopefully you can cancel your hotel room – I would suggest going to the casinos (even if you don’t gamble that much) since Mohegan Sun has some great places to eat. You could also head down to New York City where you will always find something to do.

Any reason for cancellation? Poor ticket sales? Lack of advertising funds?

So here is the way this played out – we had a room at the Madison Beach Hotel in Madison CT. I cannot recommend that hotel highly enough. Right on the beach and great room service. The weather was beautiful and honestly – having to leave to go to the show would have been a distraction from the wonderfully relaxing time we were having there. Instead we ate dinner on the balcony basked in 70 degree warmth and wonderful views.
After 2 days there we went to Brooklyn and took in Paul Simon’s “Under African Skies” – the music of Graceland and Rhythm of the Saints. We scored front row seats and I gotta tell you – this was hands down one of the best concerts I have ever seen – and I’ve seen a lot.
So – all in all – not too broken up about Hornsby canceling. Though I will certainly think twice about making travel plans around seeing his shows again – unless I have a solid backup.
