ParticipantBelieve it or not, I made a discovery! ❗
There is a link between Candy Mountain Run and Camp Meeting! ❗
There is a “deep cut” out there that links the two!
Anybody know what that is?:
:
:
Don’t think I’m crazy or I’ve fallen off my rocker (yet)! 😆 It took me a while to find it, but……..
What is it?:

I know that was a tough one!
But, only Si would probably know the answer. I must be the only “daily dose” geek out there! 😆
The answer to the question lies in “daily dose” ‘072006candymtn’ daily dose. I forget the venue, but maybe Si can post that one again. It is very good!
The progression is Candy Mountain Run>?????(something from Camp Meeting)>Candy Moutain Run. Do yourself a favor! Listen to it! Doug plays the very best guitar I’ve heard him play!
It has some excellent “two hand independece” between Candy Mountain Run and ???????.
Now that I’ve given you half the answer, what is the song from Camp Meeting in the progression?
:
You will like it!
See! I didn’t fall off my rocker after all! ❗ 😆 Now did I?

Come on Si! You must find “daily dose” ‘072006candymtn’!
The most recent daily dose of Candy Mountain Run is excellent, but not the one that links Candy Mountain Run to Camp Meeting. I know you are just teasing us! 😆 You “gosta know” (southern expression) which one I’m talking about! 😆 😆 😆
Plez?!
: ❗ The Bruce Nation needs to hear that one! You will like it!

ParticipantWell (deep subject 😆 ), it’s time to “check out”! 😆 It’s time to go on my annual trip to attempt to capture Candy Mountains! 😆 I’ve been soo close in the past, but no cigar! 😆 This time I will get her! 😆 I have a good feeling that I will! 😆 I have procured the newest technology and know for a fact that I will be close! 😆
While in search for Candy Mountains, as a cover, I will be studying the effects of the sun, moon and stars on the sea, coral and beach of the Turks & Caicos Islands. It’s not my fault, someone has got to do it! 😆
I just hope you understand I just had to go back to the island! 😆 (Who sang that song?)
Forget about tomorrow live for today,
No guarantee I’ll make it anyway.
My special candy taste good now,
Every day I die a little, a little anyhow…..That’s my story and I’m stickin to it! 😆

ParticipantGood Morning David,
Was reading the thread, so I had to check it out Candy Mountain Run, July 20. 2006 (venue is somewhere in California). Sounding good so far….

ParticipantMaybe I’m off base and a bit late to the veneration thread for BRCM
(having only seen it because Jim bumped it)…but the Mountain Winery ’06 version has a very Latinized “Un Poco Loco” in the middle section. Again, maybe it’s me and I’m still asleep…
It could be a misperception based on a limited sample size, but apparently you can never go wrong asking BH to play “Big Rock Candy Mountain Run” and/or some Bud. 😆

THey T! You nailed it!
Not many fans would know that! Not “asleep at the wheel” at all! 😆

I can guarantee that I’m going to request it for Bay Days, including the stupid “was it really about some porn movie like that idiot on the internet said it was?” question that I intended to ask last year. Some jokes never die… they just take a sabbatical on account of theoretically potential inclement weather or some facsimile thereof.

ParticipantHoly cow!! What a memory you must have!!
Once again, I have prepared my request – Black Rats of London
He can’t ignore the request. There will be a small rubber rat attached.
I’ve tried writing my request on a basketball. No dice.
I have used various Teddy Bears to transport my request. Nope
I’m just tickled pink that you remembered our debate on “Candy Mountain Run”
I SHOULD be at Bay Days this year. Face it, after the shindig at the Biltmo, it may take a bit before we recover.July 27, 2009 at 5:13 am #27518PHRoberts
ParticipantMVF wrote:Once again, I have prepared my request – Black Rats of LondonCongrats on getting not only your song heard, but your reqest mentioned for it’s creativity!
The intro to CMR was very interesting as well… I don’t think I’ve heard that before, but it sure sounds like a place I’ll like to camp out for a few days

ParticipantOK, here’s what I’m gonna put in the request:
Dear Mr. Hornsby,
I would love it if you would play CANDY MOUNTAIN RUN for us, but I would reeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy love it if you would explain what this song is about. Some idiot on the internet tried telling me that it was supposed to be the background music to some porno movie about a track team made up of strippers, and I don’t believe him. Please set the story straight so that I can go on enjoying this tune and not get the willies every time I hear it. Thanks. You rock.
Sincerely,
The artist formerly known as “Miss Virginia Former”Rich

ParticipantThe request is ALMOST perfect. I would only add
The head stripper is named David P. Day.I loved that he played Big Rock Candy Mountain with Candy Mountain Run at the Biltmo’. I watched and listened carefully, but could not detect any hints about the song.
Here’s your challenge –
If you can get that request on stage at Bay Days and have Bruce mention it, I will buy you a mug of your favorite potent potable.July 28, 2009 at 12:30 am #27521rdiakun

Even if it doesn’t happen, it’s sure gonna be fun trying!!!!! And our good friend Simon will get to witness the lengths his silly American compadres will go to for a good joke 😆 He may never be the same 🙄

ParticipantI had never heard “Big Rock Candy Mountain” before and thought it was a just a clever intro Bruce made up for CMR. After reading MVF’s reference to it as a separate song, I found this on YouTube for anyone else who wanted to hear those lyrics again… Kind of a fun tune. It never ceases to amaze me how Bruce takes me to musical and cultural places I wouldn’t otherwise visit – I can’t say that I would have stumbled on a 104 year old “hobo fantasy” song on my one!

Not heard the original before, but like it when Bruce sings it as an intro. I’m always amazed at these things he just seems to know!

Here’s the Wikipedia link. Very interesting that the tune has so many other pop references…and I notice that someone petitioned Wikip. to add the BH bit…that must be new, ’cause I’ve been checking and didn’t see it until just 5 mins. ago! 😆

TNo petition needed, just sign up for a free account and you can put anything on Wikipedia

See? When you use the wrong terminology it comes back to bite you! 😆
I must say
that I was gonna change the Wiki entry to reflect the fact that BH had been doing BRCM as an intro…but then Wikip. asked me to do something like sign up for a free account…pfft. Don’t they know I’m too lazy for that kind of shite? 🙄
