Hey, Ladybug,
Fantastic to see that a bum shoulder won’t keep you off the BoardRe: Candy Mountain Run…
Should I bring my vintage copy of Candyland to the Hampton Bay Days???Oh, hey…Monica and I toured around the Biltmo’ Estate wearing our limited edition Bay Days T-shirts. Had lots of comments on them. Either there are more SiBs and BiBs in Western NC than we thought…or maybe they were just mystified by the “Toni Twins” look. I am planning to wear it to the Bay Days this (we hope!!!) September.

ParticipantLong time ago….Way back when…..
I started my “quest” to find the true meaning to Candy Mountain Run. Where that led to in my “quest”, was a search for a “Candy Mountains”, by some “lead” due to his “specialized skills” on this site. I thus procured the most modern technologies and went on my “quest”…..
That much I have told you, but…..What I have not told you was that….
Last summer in my “quest”, I actually saw her! I was close! In fact, I saw her “across the river”! I could “discern”, that at least, she wanted to be seen.So…..I procured even more modern technologies and just went on a “stealth” mission on my “quest”. This time it was a little bit differnt than the past…..
Instead of studying the effects of the sun, moon and stars on the sea, coral and beach of some island, as a cover, I had to study the effects of the sun, moon and stars on the mountains, forest and slopes of some place I can’t mention at this time. In other words…..It was cold!
The question is……In the Davidian style…..Where was I, and more importantly, did I finally capture Candy Mountains?
Did I finally solve this issue? And, Did I have some form of “inside information”!
Don’t touch that dial! 😆 You really don’t want too! This story has an exciting ending! It really does! But…..Before I reveal the mystery, you must answer my questions and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give some hints along the way!
Go down slow, there’s a long, long way to go!…..

ParticipantI’ve never been good at guessing games, but I’ll give it a whirl.
1.You were in Vancouver during the Olympics.
2.You DID capture Ms. Mountains & ironically, this happened during one of the skiing events.
3.Yes,you did have some inside information, a person as resourceful as you always has a few ” specialized skills” reserved for any eventuality…Jackie

Participant“Dollywood” is a good guess, but it’s probably more along the lines of “the road not taken”. And…..
If you think about it…..Would “the” Candy Mountains be from the “Smokies”? If you think that, then…..Maybe you’ve been “smokin something in your pipe”! 😆
Has the true meaning of Candy Mountain Run been finally resolved?

ParticipantSorry to tell ya, but this “stealth mission” did not happen at the Olympics. But, it did happen during the Olympics where “the good guys” train for the Olympics. And yes, it did happen during a “skiing event”.
On the other hand…..The place is not necessarily as important as the “quest” to capture her and
finally resolve the mystery to the meaning of the song. Knowing that Candy Mountains holds the “keys” to that, the mission becomes one of “capture and extract”!Was she captured? That will be left up to the “jury” to decide! You get to make that decision!
If I did…..Was the mystery of the song finally solved? And, if so…..What is it’s meaning?

ParticipantSince this was a ‘stealth mission,” did it progress like this: “First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is…” ?
Just wondering,

Participanttreah wrote:Since this was a ‘stealth mission,” did it progress like this: “First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is…” ?That sorta of reminds me of a song from the 60s or early 70s. I think it was Donovan that wrote…..”First there was a mountain and then there was no mountain cause I’m so messed up”? Something to that effect! 😆
That sorta also reminds me of, “In and around the lake, mountains come out of the sky and they stand there”! 😆
Use to be a mouse, now I can roar…..
There’s a long, long way to go!

ParticipantOne day about noon, I was close to the mid mountain lodge and decided it was time to have lunch. I took my skies off, checked my technologies at the door, and went inside and got some lunch. It was crowded, so I made my way upstairs to the balcony, which was completely empty, and bellied up to a table. Within in few minutes, I heard some subtle steps coming up the stairs. As they got closer, they became more definate…..
As they topped the stairs, I looked up, and there she was! We were eye to eye, cheek to cheek! She staired at me in the eyes and sat down at a table facing me. What seemed like an eternity, she finally looked at me, broke the silence and said……
“Way back when…..long time ago”…..”I saw you looking for me…..But, it was not until your last “quest” that you were given the “oppurtunity” to see me”. “You now have the “opportunity” to speak to me”.
I couldn’t help but ask…..Why then, do I now have the pleasure of your company?
As she smiled, in all her “vulopuousness”, she said….”Cause I have a “message” for you”! “It”s obvious that despite your “wild heart” and “intentions”, that…..You have been “chosen” for me to give this message too.”
At that point…..I don’t remember much. All I remember is that I went into a “daze”, and as a gentleman, I walked her outside and helped her put on her skis.
The question remains…..What was in that “message”? Did I finally “capture” her? Did I finally resolve the mystery to the true meaning?
Forget about tomorrow, live for today. My special candy taste good now….

Participant…and then, just when you thought you were getting closer to learning all that you sought to know, some clown (OK, not ACTUALLY a clown per se, but rather a youngish-looking man who was wearing old and faded blue jeans and a t-shirt with the front cover of the Beatles “Let It Be” album on it) comes walking up on that balcony with his pockets pulled inside out, making what can only be described for polite company as… a “trouser elephant”… and uttering the timeless phrase known to some, although not all, but certainly know to some who have heard it before, whether in a dream or in a real-life scenario that is played out countless times in the memories and/or lives of individuals heretofore not mentioned (and who shall remain nameless because, well, I don’t really know their names – so there ;P).. “how ’bout them Mets?”. Just then, what appeared to be a large, hand-drawn caption block appears in the upper left-hand corner of the dreamscape, and the text appeared as a voice (which some would consider to be some sort of a god, or perhaps a somewhat lesser deity, know to many in certain professions as “the narrator”), saying “Meanwhile, back at the ranch…”. Then the scene changed, and a cartoon drawing that appeared to be a filler scene from an old episode of “The Big Valley” appeared, and all was lost. A female character in that panel had a speech bubble that said only this: “the white zone is for loading and unloading only”

ParticipantSometime we need to get a group together in W’burg so I can lead my infamous “Hornsby Tour of Williamsburg and Environs”. Highlights include the “Valley Road”, the “Midway” from “Night on the Town”, sites of several liner notes pictures, especially from “Scenes From the Southside”, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel (scene of the pic from “On the Western Skyline”), Lake Matoaka (site of the “Special Night”, and possibly the verse from “Gonna be Some Changes Made”), the office where Bruce’s mom works, etc. For an extra buck, I’ll even throw in my “Ghosts of Williamsburg” tour.
