ParticipantHere is the setlist from last nights show.
I just got back in town and driving in a non-stop downpour all night and morning was well worth it.
They only played from 8:15 – 10:15 but what they played during those two hours made up for the short show. Actually they played only two hours all fall tour. I got all my requests. I was greedy and threw out seven songs and got all seven. Resting,Invisible,Lost/Snow,Tango,Cartoons&Candy,Walk/Sun,Mandolin…hey I wanted to make sure I got a good show seeing that the one I saw a few weeks ago in Munhall wasn’t really good enough for me.Here is my version of the setlist:
Place Under The Sun
Resting Place >
Invisible (told a ‘Greatest Dad’ story)
Valley Road (told how VR was Bob Seger’s favorite BH song)
Lost In The Snow
Tango King
This Too Shall Pass
–(teased Bawitaba from Kid Rock on dulcimer for a few seconds)
Shadow Hand *
Prairie Dog Town *
Jacob’s Ladder > **
Cartoon’s & Candy > **
Jacob’s Ladder **
Walk In The Sun
Cyclone
(Song ‘something?’) or possible improv piano jam…anyways he noodled it around along with The Way It Is intro >
The Way It IsE: Bach Goldberg Variations >
Gonna Be Some Changes Made
–Bruce was talking about playing Mandolin Rain and someone yelled minor key and then I yelled no original so he said ‘What the hell I’ll play both, why not’
Mandolin Rain(minor key) >
Mandolin Rain(original) >
That Would Be Something* dulcimer
** accordionThis was my favorite Noisemakers show. They played everything I wanted to hear and played them pretty stellar. It made up for the somewhat boring Munhall show I saw a few weeks ago that had a weak setlist and kinda lame crowd.
Seeing that this show was at a casino…there were alot of ‘Comp Seats’ given out. The casino bought the first few rows on the left side, which we kindly took the front row seats right infront of Bruce(we had 8th originally).
I attempted to tape this show but was busted during Lost in the Snow. Rent-a-Johnny saw me playing with my recorder and by figured telling his boss he might get a fifty cent raise. They don’t allow taping in the venue. Oh well I tried.
The crowd wasn’t as boring as the Munhall show as some people were up and at ’em. Once Bruce ripped on the crowd for sitting around during the stanky grooves…some life did come about the crowd. This was such a fun night its too bad these guys don’t play for three hours anymore.

ParticipantGG,
Sounds like a ripping good show! Have always loved Place Under the Sun. Bruce knows just how to get the audience’s attention and bring them into the groove with him and the band.My guess about the length of the show is that it probably is strictly enforced by the casino. 2 hours is actually a generous allotment compared to most casinoes. Usually it’s 90 minutes and back to the slots with ya!
For the record, Bruce’s show at the Biltmore clocked in at just under 3 hours, so I know if Bruce has his way, he’ll put on a 3 hour show. Again, the venue typically will call the shot here.
Thanks for relaying the setlist. Glad you had the chance to see him.

Participant2 hours seems to be the norm for this tour. Whether or not it’s the venues might just be coincidence. The Biltmore must be an exception, but without re-perusing the dates this fall, I can’t be certain enough to hazard a guess. The Berklee show was 2 hours (I would be surprised if they had a strict limit), as was the Egg show — not hard for me to see that the Egg would be strict. Nice theater, decent sound (although a little low in volume…speaking of, let me digress: I will think twice about seeing another show at the Egg. The Egg, for those of you who don’t know, is smack dab in the cap. district, with no bars, pubs, or restaurants in the area, meaning that you have to drive out of the hangaresque parking area, around, up and down, here and there, to find someplace to have a beer and some grub. Lame. Anyhoo…) but somewhat foofy and not really a place to get yer groove on.
Wow, you got all 7 (!) requests, huh? Good for you. I got 1 at the Lee Berk (“Here We…”) and 1 at the Schmegg (heh)(“Drift”), although the latter show also featured the rockin’ “Talk/Charlie” that I req’d at Lee Berk…some peeps say BH pays attention to his requests and notices the peeps who ask for said tunes, but I’ll need more evidence to make that jump.

ParticipantPerhaps you’re right, T. Two hours may well be the norm for this tour. I guess only Bruce could answer the question of why that would be. Still, I’d rather have 2 hours of Bruce than not to have any Bruce at all. The setlists still look fresh and varied, so I know Bruce is giving it his best shot every night. I’d be happy to see one more show this tour but it doesn’t look like that will be possible.

ParticipantMolo3, come on out to Denver in Dec (never mind we just had over 2 feet of snow last week. I was lovin’ it!!!) or meet me in Milw on the 17th.
You and Karen could stay with us at our place in Denver. Remember, I may be expensive but I’m not cheap. 😆

ParticipantMary, that’s a very sweet offer indeed. It would be a blast to hang out with you guys again, but the last thing I want to see right now is snow, not to mention two feet of it! I just do not handle cold weather very well. I’m trying to work out a trip to *Indy on the 19th, but my work schedule is crazy right now. That also happens to be her birthday, so we’ll see. Ugh, snow. Just the thought of it depresses me. 🙄

*edit: I meant to say St. Louis. Bruce just played Indy. Still haven’t heard any review or setlist from the Indy show. Anyone? Bueller?

ParticipantYou and JV are alike. I couldn’t get either of you to make a snow angel. Winter here in Denver is nothing like it is in Wis. Most of our 2 feet of snow is already gone as it’s been rather warm (60’s all this week) but in Wisconsin, once it snows, it’s there until April. 😆 Happy b’day to Karen on the 19th!!! I’ll give you a rain check for the summer time.

ParticipantThat JV is a very smart man. Denver sounds like Louisville in some ways, minus the Rocky Mountains and spur of the moment blizzards. 😆 It snows only once or twice a year here, which I can tolerate. I just don’t like sub 60 degree weather, which is soon to set in here for the next 4 months. Karen could tell you, it makes me grumpy. 👿 I’ll pass along your well wishes to her and we’ll keep that rain check in mind.

Participant‘Goon, thanks for the set list and rundown of the show!
What was the story regarding “World’s Greatest Dad?”
Thanks,

ParticipantVic-
Bruce was just talking a little about the movie and how Robin Williams character is a big Hornsby fan and has a son who hates everything and everyone(typical dumb teenie-bopper). So RW’s character pops in a BH cd and his son asks ‘who’s this?’ and RW says ‘its Bruce Hornsby’ and RW’s son replies that ‘well Bruce Hornsby’s a fag’. So Bruce explains how RW’s son likes heavy metal so RW says that ‘heavy metal is the faggiest music of them all’ and the crowd busts up laughing.
You had to be there to really enjoy hearing Bruce say ‘Bruce Hornsby’s a fag’.Anyways it was easily my favorite BH show seeing that he played everything I wanted to hear.
The stage was a little too high though as it was as tall as I am and I’m 5’10”.
When ever I get a chance to clean up my what I got on recording I’ll probably send it to Si. Even thought its only about 5 and a half songs. I wish I would have tried recording again from a different spot but it was too fun up in front of Bruce hearing all my favorite songs.
Maybe we should all write/email/tell in person/or whatever and tell Bruce that he should make every show available on sbd for download. Alot of money would be made and alot of fans would be happy.
Alot of bands these days record every show and make them available for download on soundboard. Bruce should jump on board and do the same. Audience recordings hardly come out good enough as BH’s vocals always come out too distant IMHO. Hopefully alot of shows from this tour will come out on sbd. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.November 3, 2009 at 12:53 pm #31618Takavl

Re.: the every show available for download — didn’t I read somewhere that BH sez he’s become more perfectionist in his old age, so that now not every show will make the cut, not like every show did in the past, but anyhoo…
This seems to be born out by the lack of shows released since the “golden years” (or halcyon days, if you will 😆 ) of ’04-’07. (An aside — whatever hap’d to that “Best O’ ’08” we were told about? Not to be a greedy nagger, but sheesh!
) Again, not like every show from those years was made available, but quite a few were. Also, BH’s fall ’09 taping policy (letting fans tape, now he doesn’t have to release).
Plus, if he did release them, would he use Munck again? Urg. This link’s broken, not all of the show downloaded, need to get a hold of Customer Service? Good luck with that…
Yeah, I know that most of us would purchase quite a few, so go figure.
