ParticipantI forget if I read this on the board or heard it somewhere else, but apparently Bruce doesn’t like playing Every Little Kiss (I’m guessing because it’s a “love song”). So if that’s the case, then why did Bruce decide to include it on Bride of the Noisemakers?
It also happens to be one of my favorite tracks on the album.

ParticipantJF1 —
I could be mistaken, but “Every Little Kiss” isn’t on my copy of “Bride.” Nor is it listed here —

I know that there was at least one different release of the album, as an Amazon download I believe, that had “Mandolin Rain.” Do you have an import with different extra tracks?
As for why he’s not keen on playing EVK, it’s either because the tune is old or too sappy (your “love song” explanation)…something along those lines. At one point, I think a while back, the estate of Charles Ives initiated legal action for appropriating/”paying homage to” Ives’ “Concord Sonata — The Alcotts,” which is the first 2 or 3 measures of EVK…I wonder if he has to chip in a % every time he plays the tune for a paying public…? Hasn’t stopped him from using other Ives bits, like the chromatic sequence in “Charlie, Woody, n’ You.” But Ives is credited on that one…
Maybe he just doesn’t like the tune anymore.

ParticipantThanks for the explanation.
Every Little Kiss and Valley Road are listed as “(Bonus Tracks)”. I don’t remember how I got them, it must of been through Amazon at a later time, even though I bought the hard copy of the CD.

He finds it difficult to “make it new” by playing it in a different way from the original. Does anyone else remember Bruce saying this?

ParticipantI heard a radio interview a while back, where he said there were several reasons he didn’t like to play it much. In addition to the song not having aged well, he also stated he thought of this song as more of a “lounge” act from back in his days of playing at the Holiday Inn. He also said that he was really tired of people requesting it because it was their anniversary, or the got engaged (and several other romantic exploits) while listening to the song. He said you would not believe how many people had come up to him and shown that they had “Every Little Kiss” enscribed on the inside of their wedding bands.
My thought is that he is afraid to play it. With that many people so emotionally wrapped up in it, if he deviated from the original at all, there might be an angry mob. But hey, that’s just my thought.
