I would like to hear what everyone thinks about this topic……..

I have heard many Bruce concerts and only seen a few, but I have some that stand out in my mind.

This would have to be divided into 2 different eras.

For the early Bruce material, I would have to say that Westwood One concert from 1988 in Orlando, FL is the best old school Hornsby concert I have heard

In terms of modern stuff that I have heard, I would have to say the Bitmore Concert in 2006 was the best one I have heard. You could tell that concert was full of energy just by hearing it. I am sure those that were there would say the same thing. The mustang sally>candy mountain run was extremely awesome!!!!!

For a solo concert, the 1999 Williamsburg, VA concert on April 1 was the best solo concert I have heard. The energy in that concert is phenomenal and so is the set list. Highlights of that concert were the Mandolin>Leon Russell’s Tightrope and Let the Girls Rock.

I have only been to 2 Bruce concerts, Oyster Bay and Buffalo this year, and of those 2, the best one by far was the Buffalo concert. I would like to see Bruce post it on brucehornsbylive.com for purchase.

By all means, ANY Biltmo’ concert would have to be my favorite. I’ve been there for ’em all…..I even saw …..THE FIGHT…..

2006 was great, but I still think my personal favorite was the 2002 concert where Bruce, R.S., and Bobby were all on stage to play “Place in the Sun/Hey Baby” . I have it on bootleg, and then again on a download, and it still brings me to my knees every time.

Hey goaves, I agree with the Orlando 88 show, this is one of my favorite old school Bruce shows. It used to be the 87 Daytona show for a long time, but then I got my hands on the 88 Daytona. I love the ‘Old Playground’.
My favorite solo show is the show Bruce played the day Jerry died 8/9/95. He dedicated Wharf Rat > Lady with a Fan to Jerry and you could hear in Bruce’s voice that he almost lost it for a second. I think it was a great dedication to his lost friend.
I am still not sure what my favorite show is with the band though. It is everchanging. 2/20/05 Dallas, Texas is one of them and probably the 98 Yoshi show with Phil Lesh and Steve Kimock.

My favourite was probably his solo show he did at the NYC Cultural Center this past year…It was out of this world and the crowd was in great spirits! And plus I made eye contact with a really hot girl and she smiled at me…Oh how I regret still to this day that I haven’t spoken to her…I almost went to NYC one day to see if she was working at the cultural center.

Three spring to mind, probably in this order:

    1. Jazz Café, London, June ’93

Just out of sheer anticipation, for the first time seeing them live… compounded by Bruce’s plane being delayed and starting about 10.30. They walked off the plane and onto the stage, and still managed nearly three hours. All of this in a bar. Much of it was broadcast on BBC Radio One a few weeks later.

    2. Lowell, MA, August ’06.

Just all the right circumstances. Great songs, a small venue, and stageside seats with great people.

    3. Portsmouth, NH, November ’06.

Another one with some great company, we’d had access to Bruce for a lot of the day, and he was asking me and my friend what we’d like to hear. Whether by accident or design, most of that night’s set was a selection of our favourites.

All of the Bruce concerts that I was fortunate enough to attend were great but a couple really stand out. For nostaglia, the concert that Bruce gave at Freedom Weekend Aloft in Greenville, SC (4th of July weekend 1993). When I arrived with my girlfriend, who is now my wife, I heard the distant strains of “Rainbow’s Cadillac”. I thought that we were late to the concert, but Bruce was on stage doing a sound check. I was too shy to go up when he got through and say hi. The show really rocked! He played a lot of stuff from Harbor Lights which was one of my favorite releases of his.

The other one was my first Biltmo’ concert in 2005. Halcyon Days was just released and I had just started listening to it. This was shortly after I discovered this website and I looked forward to hearing some of the recent tunes that I heard on the Daily Doses. The show blew me away again. For a pure fun party vibe, you can’t beat the Biltmo’.

i’ll see your last one and raise it to “the next one”

and my all time favorite is
08/29/95 Melody Fair Theatre – North Tonawanda, NY
The Way It Is, White Wheeled Limousine, Long Tall Cool One, Spider Fingers, The Show Goes On, Terrapin >, I Know You Rider, Talk of The Town, Valley Road, Harbor Lights, Wharf Rat, Country Doctor, Fields of Gray, Walk In The Sun, Rainbow’s Cadillac, Iko Iko, Western Skyline > Masterpiece, Mystery Train, Look Out Any Window
Encore: Mandolin Rain, Across The River, Cruise Control

the triple threat that is Harbor Lights> Wharf Rat> Country Doctor is out of this world

the across the river jam brings me to tears…i love when they end the jam and you can hear bruce say “nice!” on the sbd recording

I handed this show out to so many people when I got it back then.
if there is one thing I want to know when I die is “what happened to the tapes I gave to those strangers?”

My last one was Albany about 600Km from my home as Bruce does not get to Toronto to often. It was a good trip though and If the man won’t come to me I may be willing to go to him again.

I’ll have to say that there are two shows tied for my favorite….

First was the taping of the CMT Crossroads show with Ricky Skaggs….awesome partnership.

Second would have to be a benefit concert at the Mosque in Richmond…Bruce and Jackson Browne played a solo acoustic show. The stage was filled with two grand pianos and a lot of guitars, but only Bruce and Jackson. They each played for an hour solo, then together for about an hour. It was really cool to hear them trade off each other’s songs.

Ready to go see another show. Come back to Virginia, Bruce!!
