ParticipantTake take take out the trash
Take out that nasty sour mash.First Hornsby song I ever heard live, it got me so pumped. It’s the coolest show opener of his whole catalogue.

ParticipantFirst post here, so here we go!
I’m stuck between three:
As I’m staring into the twilight
wishing I could find someone tonight
I know she’s out there somewhere
On the western skyline
Lonely women say a prayer
On the western skylineAnd, more recently from the white collar scandals (Enron, MCI, etc.):
Far away the men too busy getting rich to care
Closetheir eyes and let it all out into the air
Hoping nobody else would careLook out any window
Look out any open door
Look out any window
See what’s going on in the world around youAnd, even more recently, with global warming, commercial construction, and debate/controversy over the environment:
Look out, look out for the big boys
Telling you everything they’re gonna do
Look out, look out for the fat cat builder man
Turning this into a wasteland
Look out, look out for the back room boys that say
The smoke is gonna blow away
Look out, look out for the men who say it’s okay
Sitting in a building far awayWho’d ever think that songs written just about 20 years ago would still have meaning today, eh?

Called out to the angels, but no one ever came……David Day

ParticipantThe congregations waiting at the altar
They can’t find the preacher anywhere
They found him with the new girl from the choir
Where they store the boxes of the book of prayer….David Day

are guilitiest of all…”*Mea Culpa, BIBs and SIBs*

Pretty spooky, Lola—
I was just listening to Halcyon Days and jotted those lyrics down:
“Some rise by wrong, and some by virtue fall;
and those convicting may be guiltiest of all.”February 17, 2007 at 4:20 pm #27730careyon
ParticipantIs 3 a crowd? That was on my list too!
I decided not to post it to see if anyone else did.
Thanks for taking care of it, Vic and Lola!February 18, 2007 at 2:38 am #27731treah

ParticipantLocation of the “Roadside Shack”?
Miss Virginia Former,
I remember Bruce mentioning in an introduction to “Down The Road Tonight” (from one of the Daily Doses) that the pkace in the song was located in “James County.” The closeset place I could find with that name was James City County,VA, which Wikipedia says borders Williamsburg. I guess the guys had to cross the county line to have their fun.

ParticipantNot a lyric per se, but infamous…..
“We’re going to play a song from our first record, way back when, long time ago. Hope I remember the words”…….
What song and record did that come from?

ParticipantWhat a clever call David!
In my mind, I could hear Bruce leading into “The Red Plains” cut from “Here Come the Noise Makers”.February 18, 2007 at 10:48 pm #27737David Day

ParticipantTreah,
Williamsburg is the city that is within the county of James City County. FUBAR, I know, but that goes back to the 1600’s.I was once able to track down the road and bridge where the picture on “Scenes From The Southside” was taken……simply beautiful!

Thanks for correcting my geographic igorance! 😳 That’s what I get for relying on Google and Wikipedia.
There’s this old building downtown; I think they call it a “library.” Maybe I’ll try using it the next time I have a geographical question. That’s cool about the location for the picture on the album!

ParticipantHere are a few of my favorites…
Sometimes I lead sometimes I follow
This time I’ll go where she wants me to go
She said maybe today maybe tomorrow
Go deep in the woods down the low valley roadWhen I was younger I saw things in black and white
Now all I see is a sad, hazy gray
Sometimes I see a narrow flash of light
Sometimes I look and you show me the wayI was always taught well, taught well
To be the strong one and keep it inside
But sometimes I sit beside the freeway
And howl out at the dark, dark sky
I might just have to go out and burn one
Have a drink or a few
Fade away in a cloudy haze of smoke
And give the old man’s best saluteFebruary 22, 2007 at 10:44 pm #27743David Day
ParticipantSo nice to be here

ParticipantDon’t light a match,don’t play with fire
Pull down easy on the gas lighter
There’s a shelter down at the veteran’s hall
Living in the shadow of the hot house ballTemper’s hot, better pray for rain
Better watch out now for the gamma rays

ParticipantI hate to post an entire song but, sorry.
And I’d like the entire universe to know that if I were to ever meet an untimely demise I’d want Swan Song played at my funeral.
This is no fond farewell
You can be sure I could wish it was no farewell at all
It’s been a good long run
Oh to be sure I don’t regret much
Not much at all
I’m gonna dance the night away
Gonna do what I want to any old day
And all at once I know the clouds are gonna clear for meAnd I will do alright
Well in truth, I might
I may be stumbling round on some cold night
I will miss the times when we were so right
Although it seems so long ago, so long
This is my swan song, I’m gone, goneThis is no sorrowful day
You can be sure I’ve got no axe to grind at all
It’s circumstance or burn out
You can be sure I’ve been grinding
Till I’m grinding to a halt
Sometimes it’s the right thing to cut the cord
You’ve been holding on hard but your hands get sore
Sometimes it’s worth it, but sometimes you wonder what forAnd I will do alright
Well in truth, I might
I may be stumbling round on some cold night
I will miss the times when we were so right
Although it seems so long ago, so long
This is my swan song, I’m gone, goneAnd I will do alright
Well in truth, I might
I may be stumbling round in some dim light
I will miss the times when it was so rightAlthouhg it seems so long ago, so long
This is my swan song, I’m gone, goneDoes anyone know the background for this song?

ParticipantWe bend and break, so fragile, it’s true
I say everything’ll be alright but I don’t have a clue
They say faith is a crutch, well whatever works for you
In a world where you never know
I’ll be there for youSaid I’m going out to find
The pastures of plenty
I believe they’re out there somewhereSometimes you’ve just got to repeat yourself
Just to get your point across -
