    Not a decision I’m contemplating lightly, but after spending 24 hours deleting spam from this board, I’m beginning to question whether the investment is currently worth the return.

    In the same way that these discussion boards replaced “newsgroups”, Facebook is now eating the typical community site alive… and I’m afraid the Board is following suit. A real shame, since it’s approaching ten years old.

    I’ll continue to keep the Board open, but I’m afraid the days of trying to compete with social media are passing. I’ve spent more time and money than I’d care to admit on keeping this Board relevant, and introduced as many “social” aspects as I can to keep it current.

    I’m all for progress, and make use of Facebook in this site’s commenting system, Sadly I don’t believe the community aspect is an improvement. It has been replaced by a closed Facebook group, which is open to people by invitation only. I think that goes directly against the spirit of sharing that this community (and Bruce) has been well known for. I don’t believe in an application system or approval process to discuss the music, but somehow that’s now accepted.

    This board will remain open to anyone who wants to contribute – without making any elitist distinction of what makes a “real” fan, or a “devotee”, or who “gets it”, or doesn’t. That’s not for me, thanks.

    Feel free to use it as you like – but I am running out of ideas for how to improve it. As always, I’m open to suggestions or requests.

    In the meantime, I’ll focus instead on the areas that Facebook cannot provide, and share the music to all without prejudice. :)

    Any comments or differing opinions welcome.

    Well, I for, very much appreciate this board and all your efforts Si!. While I may not login daily, It has been a great resource to make friends, score some old tunes that were missing from my collection and also have a lengthy discussion from all these Bruce. (Something you really can’t do in a Facebook comment.) I don’t think “forums” are going to ever go away as I know some other hobby ones are very much alive! To me, this place is actually a nice sanctuary from Facebook.. it’s easy to write a quick comment or “like” something….but much more…intelligent to have a conversation. I hope this place never goes away, but I DO hope it becomes easier for you to manage, so you don’t need to keep fighting the spammers….ya need any moderators to help out?

    It’s not a lack of appreciation, AJ, and I’m really not looking for thanks – although I appreciate them! But it’s disappointing to have someone press the “off” button with a replacement that people aren’t allowed to see.

    There’s ten years work gone into this board, and sixteen into Bruuuce.com, and it’s a damn shame to have people take that away for a poor alternative, that just happens to be more accessible because Facebook is behind it.

    I always wondered what happened to the usual crowd I always seen here in the past. Its weird that they were here daily up ’til this year sometime and then just fell off never to be seen or heard.
    I’m anti-Facebook so to me its kinda like being a Walmart shopper.
    I may have not signed in here as much as I used to but I still drop by to see if anything new pops up and it is a shame that threads aren’t as lively as they used to be but hopefully that won’t cause us to lose this place. I still love checking out old threads I may have responded to in the past, check set lists, and look at what pictures that made it here from the old format(as many, including mine have disappeared) however, I did notice my favorite place here the Bruce Base doesn’t work anymore.
    Hopefully, our old friends who used to frequent this great site will one day make their special guest appearances once again.

    Ah, the Bruce Base – separate to the setlists, where you can search for particular songs. It needs looking at, for sure, as it’s a nightmare to maintain… but I’ll get there!

    The rest of the site is alive and well… but the Board is dying a painful death :blah:

    Yeah I miss the Bruce Base as I always used it to see how often certain songs were played and what shows they were played at. I was looking to see how often Bruce played Sunlight Moon about two months ago and thats when I noticed the BB down.

    Its a shame the Board isn’t getting the visits it once used to especially those 5 or 6 older folks that used to chat it up daily here…its weird that they all just fell off at the same time.

    I’ll get onto it. The database was written for me about a decade ago, and it’s a huge pain in the rear… every song must be typed exactly the same way, and case-sensitive, so for example these would be four different songs:

    * End Of The Innocence
    * End Of the Innocence
    * End of The Innocence
    * End of the Innocence

    … so hugely difficult to do it and get it right! But it’s on my list of things to do. Madhu (who wrote the original database) does this work at a cost now, so it may be a while.,,

    Unfortunately for me it reflects my lack of enthusiasm for Bruce’s recent works.
    I just don’t dig the Kentucy Thunder deal and the solo shows passed their shelf
    life a while back for me – a little bit of that goes a long way and I’ve had enough,
    thank you. Si is a king for running this site! I just wish we had more to crow about
    that is current.

    Here we go, GG (and others) – the Bruce Base is back in business! It needs updating with setlists from 2012, and it’s certainly open to corrections, but the last working version is now back in working order :)
