    Hey Folks,

Great site. I just registered, but I’ve been lurking for a while now.

I’m hoping someone here can answer a question that’s been driving me nuts. On 11/20/04 at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, OR and again in Lowell on 8/14/08, Bruce played a jig as an intro to Circus On The Moon. Does anyone now the name of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Another Dave on the forum eh?

I don’t know the name of the tune, but I thought it was catchy enough to try to learn how to finger through it on my keyboard.

    Others can take a shot…

    That’s a good thing! :D Welcome Dave! 8)

I can’t pinpoint it yet, but it will come to me. Maybe! 😆 Eventually! 😆

It’s actually two songs. The first I studied in music apprecitation and is maybe Beethoven? And the second is a song we use to sing as kids in school. (Bruce and I are the same age.)

If nobody else gets it, it will come eventually. May kill some brain cells in the process! 😆 But, that’s par for the course! 😆

Lordy, David, you must be older than me!! I thought I was an expert on elementary school songs, old AND new, and I don’t recognize it, either. I’m with Dave, though. I think it sounds like an Irish jig or something. Hey, has anyone heard “Black Rats of London”?? It supposedly sounds like an Irish drinking song. Maybe that’s it?????

Well part of it makes me think of the Ants go marching one by one song. But I may be wrong. With a 4yr in preschool and a 5yr in kindergarten…it was the quickest thing that came to mind. But I do think it sounds like more then one melody…

Oh…you were the “guy that asked for the piano intro played before the ‘Circus’ from the Aladdin ” as BH said, huh? You must really dig that bit :)

I’ll listen to that show today, see I I have any clue…I never recognized it as anything, but it’s very likely I just wasn’t paying attention… 😆

I kid with ya because I believe that he checked me as either being ‘deep’ or a ‘dweeb’ for requesting Coleman’s “Q&A.” Ha.

    Wow, great replies. Thanks, everyone.

I’m trying to figure it out on the fiddle as well, but I haven’t been playing long so I’ve been unsuccesful so far. My teacher seems to think it may even be a Scottish jig. She played it right away, but can’t remember the name.

I heard “Black Rats of London” at the Lowell show. Great tune, but I don’t believe it’s the same as the jig I’m asking about. My dad’s a retired history teacher and he’s actually the one that requested it on 8/14/08. He thinks it’s part of the score from a short movie that is shown at the visitors center in Colonial Williamsburg called “The Story of a Patriot.” The music was done by Bernard Hermann.

Well, hopefully one of us will figure it out sooner or later. Thanks again, folks.

Bruce, What’s the name of the jig that you played as an intro to “Circus On The Moon” in Portland, OR on 11/20/04 and again in Lowell, MA on 8/14/08? Thanks, Dave

    Bruce’s Reply:
It’s the theme from the Colonial Williamsburg movie “The Story of a Patriot.”
