ParticipantThe ’08 newsletter, or Bruuuceletter as I’m calling it, is out and chock full of interesting things. The one that has caught my interest the most is Bruce is going to be in a movie in ’09! This sounds very exciting and it is a Robin Williams movie no less, which means it should be pretty funny. There will be a lot of Bruce’s music in it, so a great soundtrack should also be in store for us fans!
I’m hoping we’ll see a lot of Noisemakers dates this year (Bruce, preferably in the Ohio River Valley region, hint hint) but if nothing else it looks like we’ll have a new album to sink our teeth into!
Regards

ParticipantI heard Robin Williams mention this movie on a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. That was also the same night that there was an ad on tv (just before the Robin Willilams segment on Leno – go figure) announcing that Robin Williams was doing a stand-up tour and was going to be playing at the Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk sometime in March. So, it’s never too early to start the usual pointless specualtion that I am famous for whenever someone that has any sort of tie to Bruce is appearing anywhere in the area…. do you think Bruce will make an appearance? OK, I got that out of my system.
Rich
PS I was also ticked that Robin Williams used one of the oldest jokes about Richmond when he was being interviewed by Leno. He mentioned that he likes to check out the towns he appears in, and that he was recently in Richmond, VA, where they have ” street full of these Civil War memorials, all of which are Confederate.” I’m thinking, “OK, a Monument Avenue reference… not bad.” Then he lets out with the “I guess those are second-place trophies” line that would get anyone other than Robin Williams seriously beaten up in some parts of the West End of Richmond. My first thought? “Damn! I cant use that joke any more. People will think I’m ripping off Robin Williams, when in reality, he’s ripping off tons of Richmonders and former Richmonders.”

ParticipantStories have it that Robin Williams was the Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook (two notable joke stealers) of his time. Supposedly, he would show up at comedy clubs and gather material for his own standup act and for his next talk show appearance.

ParticipantAs a long time listener to Howard Stern, I can tell you that an endless number of comedians have come in to rail against RW. These were people who were on the level if not above RW in talent and status, so I doubt jealousy had much to do with it. I doubt we’ll see Bruce making an appearance at one of his gigs, even if it is close to his house. I enjoy going to comedy clubs, especially Caroline’s when I’m in NYC, but seeing a comedian play in a venue that is more suited for concerts, IMO is just a bad idea and not worth the $$ ($57-$90 per seat in most places!!).

“Okay: Bobcat Goldthwait + Robin Williams + a title like World’s Greatest Dad = run for the hills. Right? I mean, I had to suppress a shriek upon reading that headline. But then I read further and … this looks kind of awesome. I’m not joking.
Here’s the pitch: Williams plays a high school poetry teacher and failed writer whose son dies in a freak masturbation accident. Stay with me here, folks. Not wanting to expose his family to the embarrassing publicity of a freak masturbation accident resulting in death, Williams’ character decides to cover it up by writing a fake suicide note and claiming that his son took his own life.
When the story — including the suicide note — becomes a sensation, he decides to revive his writing career by fabricating an entire journal supposedly written by his son before his death. I get the sense that they mean ‘World’s Greatest Dad’ ironically.”
hehehehehehehehe …

ParticipantVictor,Honey,and friends…
Brucie mentioned this film gig [with glee] at his Chatauqua gig this summer past. Here’s another link that explains it, again. If you’re really curious, Sundance also lists the screening dates. It’s not too far away from Colorado Springs, Vic… Don’t know if you’d want to camp there, though.

ParticipantLovely Lola,
I think the Sundance site (thanks for the link) says the first showing is Jan. 19 or something. Unfortunately, I doubt we’ll be able to make it this year (unless, possibly, if someone is coming through the Springs and wants to give us a lift to Utah and share costs!). Allisa? Monica???
But — yeah — I’d definitely advise AGAINST camping at this time of year!!! 😯
Be good,

Monica???I won’t be able to go to anything that soon. Just took on a job to save up for our next Bruce adventure…hopefully a bit closer to home this time.
Does anyone know if this movie will be released possibly at thearters or DVD?? Not sure how the Sundance thing works.
Monica
