Is it just me or is his music sometimes sort of sexy, the rhythms and the way he delivers his vocals? (I’m sort of referring more to songs after the Range but anyway – doesn’t have to exclude pre-Range)
For example songs like Harbor Lights, etc.
I’ve never really heard his music described in this manner but maybe this would be the first instance.
I’m not a new fan of Hornsby per se. I just have never really posted at a BH forum before.

Very interesting point of view on Bruce’s music. I’m sure this topic could “catch fire”, especially once SMP chimes in! 😆
I think some of his work can be viewed in that way. As a guy, I can’t say I’ve really thought of it before. We need input from the other ladies on here to really see how prevalent the notion is.
I will say that Bruce’s live shows are certainly charged with a lot of energy, inspiring spontaneous grooving in the audience and even sometimes on stage. I know Mrs. molo3 likes that Bruce’s music encourages you to get up and boogie, but I haven’t heard her talk about his voice or delivery in the way you mentioned.
Either way, this is a fantastic topic. I’m glad you brought it up! Please post more of your thoughts! We always enjoy hearing new POV’s around here.

Sometimes sexy??
Boy oh boy Molo3, did you open up a can of worms with trying to get me to chime in. I’m sitting here just smilin’ away writing this because if I really wrote what I felt about Bruce’s sexy music, Si would ban me. 😮 So being the quiet, reserved (almost wrote preserved – ha) AND shy person that I am (Molo3 and David, don’t choke), I’ll just let you guys try to imagine what I’m thinking. It’s best not to play with fire. 😆 Let’s just say Bruce delivers the whole package.
If you ever talk to Bruce personally, ask him about the time I took off my shirt (WHILE DANCING ON STAGE) at a show in Wausau, Wi. 😯 Bruce’s smile and laugh from across the stage is something I’ll never forget. I was the only one that jumped (crawled) up on stage (a rare occurrence as usually the stage is jammed with dancers) and Bruce said I didn’t have to stand there all by myself (in other words, a nice way to say, “Mary get your butt off the stage as you’re embarrassing me.” ha) but I told him I wasn’t leaving. Poor Ricky Skaggs didn’t know what the hell I was doing when I started taking off my shirt. I think both Bruce and Ricky are still in therapy over that one. They should be!! And some people in the audience asked if I was part of the act. Did I happen to mention I had a shirt on underneath?? Ya, I can only imagine what some of you were thinking. I don’t think pictures/videos were allowed for that show so all you’ve got is the visual. Some things are just better left untaped.Let’s see, I miss you because we’re about 1000 miles apart and no Bruce concert in sight. How sad is that??

We haven’t decided when exactly we’ll be going but we certainly plan to. The play is premiering at The Wells Theater in Norfolk. I heard Bruce tell a joke about Norfolk on stage at some point. But anyway…

basically I always thought BH’s music was kind of manly and it’s nice to know that one lady on the planet besides me feels otherwise 😆 😆 I always wondered why I never heard more women be charmed by the way he plays his music and sings

I don’t know if Bruce would refer to me as a lady with the way I crawled up on stage (ha) but I bet there’s a few other ladies on this planet that feel the same way about his music. Lady S: An interesting question! I must confess,when Someone says “sexy music,” I think more along the lines of Barry White.(That reference REALLY shows my age…). That’s one of the many reasons I love this Board-the members always find creative ways to look at Bruce’s music.
I was all set to write about Bruce’s jazz influenced music and the origin of the word “jazz,” but I found errors in my research, so that witty (or boring)

Mary, Are you sure Bruce wasn’t playing What A Time when you crawled on stage? That song mentions removing some clothing,doesn’t it?

Hey Jackie!! I couldn’t tell you what song Bruce was playing at the time because I was so concentrated on crawling, yes, literally crawling on stage (had to put a chair against the stage and crawled over all these wires, stood up, brushed myself off and was good as new) that I didn’t want to disconnect a wire or anything. But I like your thought as that would’ve been very fitting at the time.

What can I say? I seem to bring the best out in SMP!
The dates for SCKBSTD are locked in, so barring anything out of the ordinary, it will run mid-January through early February. I’d be open to another meet-up next year if Bruce schedules a tour, but I think this musical is such a special occasion that those of us on the Board that can make it, should show up as a sign of support for this new project.
I don’t know if Bruce will even be there other than maybe the opening night, but I’m sure he would appreciate our efforts. Besides, have you been to an opera/theatrical performance lately? I don’t know if this musical will attract the usual goers, but I’m guessing they want an audience that will understand and appreciate the modern music Bruce puts out.
Case in point: The musical “Rent” came through Louisville years ago and its subject matter and musical style was not well-suited to the typical theater-going crowd, at least not here. Half the audience left at intermission. I don’t foresee that happening here, but regardless, it would be great to see as diverse a crowd for the musical as Bruce draws at his live shows.

Sorry for the rant. I’m fresh off of seeing a musical my brother was in up in Dayton, OH. The Mrs. and I were the youngest people in the crowd by at least 30 years.

I would imagine Bruce being at opening night since this is such a new exciting venture for him. So maybe we should all plan to meet for the opening night in Norfolk. Now here’s another question: would people be open to going to NY for the opening night there as well?? Does anyone know when that is??
Since Bruce isn’t touring this year, I plan to make up for it next year (have no fear, I already warned Bruce
) and would love to meet up somewhere with everyone again for a show or two or three. Have luggage, will travel.SMP

Where did you hear about the NY opening of the musical? I figured it would make its way there at some point, but I hadn’t heard any details.
I think opening night would be the toughest ticket to get, especially for a premiere such as this. I’m all for trying though! My brother works for the Gilbert & Sullivan Players in NYC right now, but I did encourage him to try out for SCKBSTD.
As for me being 13, maybe at heart! 😆
I’m hoping for at least one regional tour date next year. I definitely want my kids to get to see Bruce & the Noisemakers live before it’s all said and done. Whenver any song comes on the radio that has piano in it, they shout in unison, “Bruuuuuce”. You could say I’m bringing them up right.

So I guess we should just focus on the Norfolk opening for now.

Subject at hand..I have to say I was attracted to Bruce’s music, style and voice right off. Just something magical in his voice and they way he plays that piano. It can be so addicting, I never have gotten tired of his music or all the new stuff he gives us.
As far as Mary…yes you know I’d back you up anytime!! After all you can always pick me up in Texas on your way to Virginia and we can get there together, that way you have protection upon entering in case Bruce has the guards out and won’t let you in. 😆
As for the musical and meetup…keep me posted, I definetly would be interested in this one.
Good to have a laugh. I’ve been down alot lately. Between the gout, pain from my arthritis in the shoulders and neck, and just learning I have type 2 diabetes, I’ve been down on my self lately…and this truely was the laugh I need. Thanks!! Good to have friends who understand our crazy ventures in the Bruce world.
