About ten years ago my brother-in-law gave me a soundboard copy of this fantastic show with Bela Fleck. It was recorded on March 23, 1997 in West Reading, PA.

I’ve always been a mild Bruce fan, but once I heard that show, I was blown away. The section of the show where Bruce plays solo (The Way It Is, Spider Fingers > Parisian Thoroughfare > Spider Fingers) is absolutely stunning… as Bela puts it “sounded like there was four or five piano players out here…”

When I was a soundman in the late 90’s, this was a frequent “warm-up” disc. I had more than one person comment that they had never really appreciated The Way It Is until they heard that version.

I’ve long since loaned out the board copy he gave me (to some unscrupulous person who never brought it back) so I was overjoyed to find it on archive.org. It’s revived my interest in finding more Bruce like this.

Can anyone point me to other shows like this? I would love to find some more solo-Bruce.

    Thanks in advance,

    Bushman

Check in next week and I’ll have a whole solo show up for download. Are you looking for shows specifically with Béla Fleck sitting in?

In the meantime, there are official downloads up at http://www.brucehornsbylive.com.

While I love the interplay between Bruce and Bela, I’m really looking for Solo Stuff… I think it is incedible what he can do with two hands, ten fingers, and a pair of feet on the pedals.

I will keep checking next week… looks like I found this web site at the right time!

    Thanks,

I’ve combined a couple of requests, and put a Béla and Bruce show from 1996 up today – you’ll enjoy it.
