Yeah, this blind kid Scott sang Mandolin Rain tonight on American Idol.
He did good. He also plays the piano but didn’t tonight.
Ever since I first seen him and his piano I kept wondering that if he even knows about Bruce and tonight I got my answer when he announced what song he was going to sing.
I thought it was really cool that he sang it and also that he does like Bruce.
    I voted for him afterwards.

OMG!!!!! i was amazed and just in shock that Scott did a Bruce number! he did well….but he would have done a hell of a lot better if he was allowed to play his piano.now i know that they will give him the chance to use his piano if he makes it into the top 12…wich i am hopeing for:-) he is a very talented kid-i’m sure he will go far in AI:-)

I was watching it tonight also. When he said he was singing Mandolin Rain by Bruce Hornsby, I was like YES! I felt so proud. :D Maybe by him singing that song, it will make more people discover the Bruuuce man! ;)

It’s all over You Tube – we should leave comments on every video that Bruce sang the original! 😆

You have to love Simon Cowell, who “didn’t like the lyrics”. I recall him being on Letterman a few years ago with Bruce and apparently blanking Bruce’s handshake. A fantastically arrogant man.

I watch American Idol and also saw the performance last night. I lit up when I heard he was going to sing one of Bruce’s songs. Yippee for Bruce!! When Simon said he didn’t like some of the lyrics, I was like what?? Look it here mister, we’re not here to judge the song, we’re here to judge the singer. What an idiotic thing to say. Si, I left a message on Bruce’s site calling Simon a Bozo Brit but put (no offense Si) but it appears you thought he was an idiot too. :)

I may have to violate my self-imposed reality TV band and check this out, on YouTube at least. Glad that Bruce is getting some love on TV these days. I wonder what Bruce thought of the performance.

    Goon,

You beat me to this topic by a minute! So I deleted my redundant thread. Here’s my two cents, posted earlier:

I thought the guy kind of butchered it, but the judges seemed impressed. The odd thing is, the guy plays keyboards, but he didn’t play; he just sang it.

Yeah, I watch Idol sometimes. When Real Housewives is a repeat. 😳

Don’t give me a hard time about, OK? :P

Oh, I’ll give you a hard time alright. You live an hour away from me and you’re a fan of a housewives show?? Talk about weak!! 😆 I agree, Scott probably would’ve done better had he played the piano and sang Bruce’s song. Then again, we’re all probably comparing Bruce to Scott and there’s no beating Bruce as to how he performs that song.

The song is a great one. I do agree that Scott could have sang it better. But who am I to judge..I don’t sing all that well myself…I rather be one to listen then to sing.
I was just mad at the fact that Simon (THE JUDGE..could have been really cruel there but I am trying to be nice) ;) put down Bruce’s lyrics. Its supposed to be all about judging the singing abilities of the potential American Idols not the song, lyrics or song writer and I feel he wasn’t judging correct in this instance.

    But thats just my view…

It’s funny. Last night was the first time that I watched American Idol this season (except for the crazy auditions). My oldest daughter said that the guy singing next was singing a Bruce Hornsby song. I expected him to sing “The Way It Is” since most people only know that song. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the piano and he started to sing one of my favorites, “Mandolin Rain”. He was a little creative with the lyrics but he didn’t have time to sing the whole song so he had to “skip to the chase” as it were. I thought that he did a pretty good job. I even remarked that he looks a little like Bruce did when he was young. I hope that maybe he sings another Bruce song when he gets to play the piano. I will have to wait and see I guess.

hmmm – did bruce even write the lyrics? I thought that was a collaboration with his brother?

    Kind regards

Dave, I believe Bruce generally gives his brother John credit for the (awesome) lyrics, though the liner notes say they co-wrote that and every other song on the first record — except for The Way It Is and Every Little Kiss, for which Bruce received solo credit.

Mary, even though I live in Colorado now, I can’t help that I’m in love with NeNe from real Housewives Atlanta. Maybe David Day can introduce me to her sometime. :)

Oh, David didn’t tell you we’re all going to dinner and I get to meet the love of your life, Nene?? Oops, guess I wasn’t supposed to say anything. ;)
