KeymasterEnough people who frequent this site have suggested that they’ll be in New York next week for Bruce’s show.
So I’m suggesting a meetup for anyone who be interested. I’ll be there for that show… if anyone has some suggestions for a place to eat that evening (near the venue), or would like to go, please make yourself known!

ParticipantI’m in….
I also hope that someone records this show…there are NO SOLO shows available on etree….should i look someone else? I’m really annoyed I’ve heard no shows from this tour….

ParticipantMy wife and I will be at the show, although I’m not sure at this point about our schedule beforehand (we’ll have to start heading for home afterward).
In any case, if you see us, please do say hello

ParticipantHey Si…
My husband and I will be at the show. I don’t know his schedule yet, so I don’t know how early we can arrive. It would be great to see you so I’ll keep you posted.

ParticipantMeetup in NYC
I’m going to the show on Friday, and should be available for a little while before. I live in NYC, and if you all have suggestions on what kind of stuff you like (or don’t like) to eat, I can look into someplace to meet up – maybe on the Upper West Side near the venue. Let me know. Thanks. Looking forward to it.

KeymasterAnywhere within easy walking distance of the venue, I should say!
We can’t really go wrong, so if you have any suggestions, leave them here and we’ll sort something out.

Simple solution, really.
1. Buy hundreds (or better yet, thousands) of dollars worth of equipment.
2. Learn how to use it.
2a. In the dark. Avoiding dection by the ushers if needed.
3. Buy some prime tickets. Be sure to choose your seats on the basis of sound, not the view.
3a. Also factor in things like how likely are you to have chatty neighbors, will people be walking back and forth in front of you, will you be near a wastebin, etc…basically think about the hundreds of things going on at a show that could affect your recording.
3b. Are you going with a friend or significant other? Make sure they are happy to sit dead silent and have no interaction with you for the duration of the show.
4. Given your seat location, figure out the best microphone type and configuration to use. You did choose the correct microphone type in step 1, didn’t you?
5. Depending on venue rules and other restrictions, bring in your gear undetected.
6. Set up, again possibly needing to do so undetected. Also be sure you won’t infringe on the enjoyment of your neighbors.
7. Hmm, looks like Bruce decided to play one straight set with no break. You did chose to record to a medium with enough storage space and/or can swap tapes/discs in the dark at just the right time to not miss any music or entertaining banter, right?
7a. And you checked and will have adequate battery life, right? Although you may start sweating bullets when he launches into that second encore.
8. OK, show’s over, you’re almost home free. Once you’ve dealt with the swarm of people who spotted your mic stand and want to know when the show will be on etree or what your address is so they can send you blanks and postage, or set up a trade for their one 5th generation casette recording of an unidentified 1993 show they know you really really have to get.
9. Now it’s time to transfer the show to your hard drive, track it out, and make other edits as appropriate.
10. Now that you’ve made your FLACs, you have decompressed them and listened very carefully to every second of each track to spot any potential glitches, right?
11. Excellent. Now all that’s left to do is seed your recording. You can leave your computer on 24/7, right? And you don’t mind having most of your bandwidth sucked up for several days, right? Don’t even think of trying to download another torrent in the meantime or your seed will crawl along.Hmmm, maybe not so simple, but it beats just sitting around being annoyed.
Edit to add: Unless/until the recent changes in taping policy are clarified, I would NOT recommend that anyone torrent or publicly distribute a recording made without explicit permission from Bruce. But the obvious solution to a lack of recordings is to make your own, and distribute if/when appropriate.

Alright cool so I will record the NYC and Ridgefield, CT shows coming up. I just bought the new Zoom H4 handheld recorder…I’ll be sure not to let YOU have a listen…As to the rest of you, email me after the show and I’ll gladly hook you up and I edit every track and having fun doing it knowing I was there and I get to have this gem to treasure forever…
Let me know where we’re gonna meet for dinner beforehand, my girlfriend (who is also excited about me recording the shows) is excited about the meetup!
Cheers

ParticipantGood luck (seriously). If you’re using the internal mics on the Zoom, make sure you elevate it as high as you can, assuming open taping is ok. Aslo be prepared for the record light to seem pretty bright in a darkened room.
From what I’ve heard the internal mics on the Zoom sound better than built in mics in a $300 recorder have any right to. And with the XLR inputs and phantom power options, you’re set for a while if you choose to upgrade the mics down the road.
Bear in mind that the Zoom doesn’t officially support 4 gig cards but the Transcend 4 GB will work. The headers will get screwed up if you let any single file exceed 2 GB though. You can fix that later with a hex editor but it’s a PITA.
Quote:I’ll be sure not to let YOU have a listen…🙄 Don’t worry about little ol’ me, I have enough to listen to.

ParticipantWant to join for meet-up in NY — but no tix!!
😥 Hi folks — Id love to meet up at the show tomorrow night (11/10) here in NYC, but I didn’t end up with tickets to the show! I’ve been training for last week’s marathon and guess I acted to slowly… nothing left! Boo.
If anyone has ticket(s) for a 24 year-old fellow bruuuucer (I’m willing to buy of course), I hope you’ll give me a shout at mailto:nicholas.covey@nielsenmedia.com
I HATE to think of Bruce doing it up right in my backyard and I didn’t even get out…
Enjoy the show, in any case.
Warmly,
NicNovember 10, 2006 at 2:01 pm #27138Si Twining
KeymasterI’m not going to be able to make a meetup prior to the show, but the rest of you go ahead and arrange something on this page if you’d like.
