ParticipantWe kinda thinking of coming over to the states to see bruce, but personally I’d much rather see a gig with his band than with ricky skaggs.
Any idea when they’ll be touring again?
Kind regards

ParticipantI love the Noisemakers too. They constantly amaze me with their musical skill…BUT today I’ve been listening to some great doses from 8/26/04 Nashville,TN. Ricky Skaggs plays during Mandolin Rain and The Way It Is. Ricky and Bruce take both those songs to some amazing jazzy/bluesy places! Maybe they’ll wander off the bluegrass path again during some of their upcoming shows. I know it wouldn’t be the same as a Noisemakers show, but it would be very interesting….

ParticipantHey, slow down people….check out one of these shows and I think you might be surprised….there is a comfortable, less urban, southern-ness to these shows that is refreshing, unassuming, unpretentious and really special…I just got back from seeing these guys in Washington and I was amazed….fans of musicianship will be picking their jaws up off the floor….it’s not “country” it’s bluegrass….the rapport and interaction between Bruce and Ricky is charming, simple and very very real….I felt much the same way as you guys before I saw the show…”what, no Noisemakers??? Whaaaaa” but I was moved deeply by the rustic interpretations of some songs we take for granted as rock or pop standards…..
Don’t knock it ’till you’ve tried it. This is an aspect of Bruce’s music that merits your attention and your attendance!
Go if you possibly can.

ParticipantI also feel like I’m going through Noisemakers withdrawal. Those shows do have something that the solo shows, and the bluegrass shows, don’t. I miss the interaction between the guys who know each other so well, and everything JV does, and the free-flowing nature where pretty much any song might be next.
But the Hornsby and Skaggs show I saw was great, no question. I have to admit I was a little worried when I realized the first set was proceeding EXACTLY as reported by Allissa for a few nights before, but the playing by all involved was top notch. It was great to hear Bruce playing on songs I’d never heard live before, many of which just wouldn’t work in the Noisemakers context. And the second set seemed to be a little looser, with a few unscripted surprises thrown in.
But I hope I can see a show with JV before too long.
