I hope this isn’t something that is answered elsewhere on the boards; I did try a few searches to no avail. Does anyone have a link to an alternate version of Gonna Be Some Changes Made containing a verse about trying to (please excuse the misquote) “…appear to be smart, maybe love would come to me as a patron of the arts…”
Thanks,
I thought I go and read some books
Appear to be smart
I thought maybe love would come to me as a patron of the arts
I started quoting Shakespeare on a midsummer’s night shade
The ladies yawned
And I walked on
There’s Gonna Be Some Changes Made
Another “missing”, and even rarer verse is this one (going from memory here, so it may not be exact):
It’s just that style I kind have got
We’re so pleased to welcome you
Now that you’re here with us today
Would you play on this kazoo?
I said, “All right, okay” as if I was afraid
I walked out in a daze
There’s gonna be some changes made
And just to nitpick, I think it’s “I tried spouting Shakespeare upon a midsummer’s night shade.”
Perhaps the reference to Shakespeare has something to do with the fact that Bruce’s mom (Lois) is the mastermind behind the Virginia Shakespeare Festival every summer…..
Yes, yes, sorry, you are correct: It’s “I tried spouting.”
JC,
Thanks for posting that “rarity.”. I recall hearing that verse on one of Si’s daily doses. It describes perfectly the “Morning Zoo” type commercial radio show here in the US.

This video should be of some interest:

It’s an old promotional video for Gonna Be Some Changes Made. Bruce performs it solo with all the known verses to the song.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting that.
Another bit of “Bruce” trivia…
In “Changes Made”, Bruce refers to going down to the “grinning lake”. In the past, he has referenced Lake Matoaka, near W&M College as THE place for skinny dipping. Matoaka was the Indian name for Pocahontas. Pocahontas means “grinning one”. Coincidence, purposeful reference, or am I just WAY too focused on Colonial Williamsburg / Bruce Hornsby trivia?????
