ParticipantThe 2006 Year End Award results are in and we need to honor the Road Scholar of the Year! The Road Scholar of the Year Award will go to the person who has traveled the most miles to see the most shows.
Please post the number of shows you have seen in 2006 and the states where the venue was located.
I have been to 5 shows in 2006 in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
I know of two people who have me beat.

ParticipantI only made 3 shows in 2006, but clocked 1500+ miles in the process. (we’re a little more spread out here in the west) 😉
July 2006 – Woodinville, WA
October 2006 – Portland, OR and Seattle, WAJanuary 3, 2007 at 6:49 pm #27325Amanda
ParticipantI made 2 shows this year, Knoxville & Bartlett, but like Allisa logged in many miles doing so, about 1300+, which is a moot point since Allisa has me beat!

ParticipantDD…
Record-breaking year for me…eight shows, lots of miles…approximately 3450 miles [that does not count ‘lost’ mileage]…and, I would have gone to more, gladly…the journey was part of the gift…
June 25, 2006 Charleston, WV
August 22, 2006 Charlottesville, VA
August 24, 2006 Wolftrap, Vienna, VA
October 8, 2006 Louisville, KY
October 10, 2006 Indiana, PA
October 11, 2006 Cleveland, OH
November 4, 2006 Richmond, VA
November 5, 2006 Annapolis, MDa disappointed Lola, who did not GET the contest for the NY/BB King tickets
and would have started on the list for ’07January 10, 2007 at 5:29 pm #27327Victor

I think we have a winner! Very impressive, Lola!
But, Lola, I nearly gave you some competition. I booked a planned flight to Colorado (about 1,400 miles one-way from here) to coordinate with the time Bruce was making his tour through there; I almost made the drive out to Telluride from Colorado Springs to see him, but I didn’t have time.
Add that to my Louisville, Atlanta, Knoxville and Memphis trips, and I would have given you a run for your money!

ParticipantWe may be close to having a winner! But, there is one other person we need to hear from. It may be close! ❗

ParticipantBefore we award The Road Scholar of the Year Award, we need to hear from Si. Si, tell us about your travels in 2006. How many shows did you see and in what states? I think you have some stiff competition from LolaPelusa!

Lake Lanier, GAI think I cheated though, David! – I live 3,000 miles away, and made the trip twice! So that’s 12,000 miles before I even go to a show.
I think we have a winner in LolaPelusa!

You have a good point, but before we award Road Scholar of the Year, we need to clarify a few things.
My thoughts for Road Scholar of the Year should go to just that…..a road scholar. Someone who is on the road. Not someone who is sitting on a jet sipping a coctail being waited on. In other words, let’s throw out sky miles.
Si, if we clarify it that way; how many shows did you attend and in what states? I’ll use mapquest to figure the miles between shows.
Does LolaPelusa still have you beat? Is it going to be a picture finish? Stayed tuned!

January 31, 2007 at 2:09 am #27339careyon
ParticipantWell, I hail from Roanoke,VA.
-I drove at least 6,200 miles to Bruce gigs in 2006 ( not counting 3 that I
flew to)
– The Atlanta show was the charity show Bruce did with Sonny
(I’ve been to Chastain several times, but not in 2006)
– Favs for 2006 include Knoxville, Vienna, Richmond and Annapolis
Very difficult to choose one !
– My first Bruce show was Charlottesville, VA 1988
– I’ve been to 250+ Bruce gigs since thenI compare my dedication to that of sports fans traveling around the country to see their team play…. Go Bruce!

ParticipantVic,
There are many factors that influenced my fav shows. Sometimes the
crowd reaction, the friends that are there with me, Bruce’s humor and great stories, the smokin’ Noisemakers and song selection aid in my decision.Knoxville had a good crowd and stand outs for me were :
Sticks and Stones, a rocking Candy Mt. Run, Crown of Jewels and a huge
5 song encore that included Dreamland, Mandolin Rain>Halcyon DaysVienna opened with a solo that led into Place Under the Sun and China Doll, so I just beamed the rest of this spectacular show. The Noisemakers
were in top form and we even got a short version of Lion Sleeps Tonight !The solo shows Richmond/Annapolis included everything this Bruce fan
loves – new tunes like Dreaded Spoon, In the Low Country, Toodirump song
– old songs made new, Mandolin Rain
– My personal favorites like King of the Hill, Country Doctor, Circus
on the Moon, Sad Moon, Song H
– lots of other good stuff including The Boxer and Swan SongWhat’s your favorite 2006 show?

ParticipantI think all the votes are in! ❗ The Road Scholar of the Year Award for 2006! ❗
The Road Scholar of the Year qualifies you to be highly esteemed by all road scholars, to explore remote places trying to find unfounded shortcuts not shown on mapquest, to report on assorted journeys, shows, songlists and thoughts to other road scholars, to help organize meetups near venues, to practice two hand independence on the dash while driving and be looked upon as a true fan by the Bruce Nation.
The 2006 Road Scholar Award goes to………….
From Roaknoke, VA, ………Careyon! ❗
Carey has been to 17 shows in 2006, traveled over 6000 miles to shows
that have been in in 14 states! ❗Way to go Carey! ❗ That’s outstanding! ❗
At one of the meetups in 2007, you will be awarded dinner & drinks by yours truely, the original Road Scholar. (I’ll be easy to spot! I’ll be the only good looking guy there! 😆 )
Congratulations Carey! ❗

ParticipantMy Favs of 2006
Carey,
Each of the shows I attended had its moments:
There was “Every Little Kiss” at the Atlanta benefit; the solo show in Louisville had a neat “Road Not Taken>Old Kentucky Shore” medley; at the Memphis in May festival, it was a cool “Sunflower Cat>Mystery Train” in the rain.
Of course, the Knoxville show had everything you said, plus the meetup beforehand.
David — Are you just using this award as a way to take women out to dinner? ❗ 😉

ParticipantVictor wrote:David — Are you just using this award as a way to take women out to dinner? ❗ 😉It’s not my fault! It’s not my fault that I’m too tall, too tan, too go0d looking with too good of body and have too many women knocking down my door! It’s just not my fault! ❗ 😆
On the other hand, I would consider it an honor and a pleasuse to take Carey out to dinner and drinks before a show with some true fans and road scholars! In fact, drinks for everyone are on me! It would be a memorable occasion! ❗
