ParticipantHere is the set list:
Old Kentucky Shore (Ricky Skaggs tune)
Across the River (Featuring an awesome guitar solo by Gibb Droll!)
Another Day
Cyclone (side note, Bruce read off the request I wrote in black sharpie to the audience and gladly obliged!)
End of the Innocence
Fun House>Sexy Thing
Big Stick
Darling Corey
15% song about tipping (new song on dulcimer)
MIA (new song on dulcimer)
The Good Life (on dulcimer)
Valley Road (on dulcimer)
The Way It Is
Rainbow’s Cadillac> Franklin’s Tower (several verses sung from the amazing Grateful Dead Tune)
Encore: Mandolin RainOverall, this was an awesome show! The Chessboxer duo of Ross Holmes and Matt Menefee added a cool element to lots of songs throughout the show. It felt like Bela Fleck was there at times! I think Old Kentucky Shore is a first for the band since I have not heard this played in any other Bruce show. Another Day was a big surprise since this song has not surfaced much in recent years. It now has some great fiddle playing in it and I really like the new style of the tune. Hopefully those of you waiting for Bruce to come elsewhere this summer get to hear it.
For those of you wondering about the two new members, they fit in perfectly. Gibb Droll is almost like an Eric Clapton look a like with his style of play. It takes the band to a new level and even JT has kicked it up several notches during the evening belting out some great licks on the keyboard. Ross Holmes is an amazing Fiddler and Mandolin player. I hope these guys stick around for years to come and Bruce reintroduces some old tunes like Fire on the Cross and Western Skyline since he has the folksy band to play them.
I recorded the whole show, but it came out shotty from the way it is until the end. If anyone would like to hear it, I have the whole thing in mp3 format and would gladly send it their way so it can be posted. Please send me a message if you would like it.

ParticipantFire on the Cross, yes yes yes! I’ve been wanting to hear a modern version of it for years! We’re on the same page with that. Glad to hear the new guys are fitting in. I’ve haven’t been to a show with the new arrangement yet, but so far based off seeing the set-lists, I’d say my only complaint would bee too much dulcimer, though I know Bruce is really moving in that direction. I love hearing the band, and I know the dulcimer takes away from that a little. I’m good with 2 dulcimer tunes a show. Other than that, I think these set-lists seem to be pretty good.

ParticipantI’d also love if you can send me the recording. I don’t care how the quality is, even hearing a spotty recording would be well worth it!

ParticipantHey Jeff! Glad you enjoyed your Kentucky show. Pittsburgh was pretty sweet too…you missed out! I think my show had the cooler set list;)

ParticipantI liked my set list pretty well. I think Prairie Dog Town is way over played and I was glad he didn’t play it. I am jealous you got a Red Plains and Defenders of the Flag. Overall, I was happy to hear Cyclone at my show. China Doll would have been cool too. Hopefully he busts that one out another time. I taped the Kentucky show if you want it. I’ll email you the link to my drop box.

ParticipantI’m jealous you got Across the River as that was one of my requests. I even made it look like 5 people requested it hoping he thought a bunch of people wanted to hear it but I guess he didn’t want to play it two days in a row.
He played the two new songs during sound check but without lyrics so I still haven’t heard them yet other than the band tinkering with them instrumentally. I hear ya about Prairie Dog but I love the beat so I can get passed the fact that I heard/seen that song played at like the last 5 shows I attended. Also…it was awesome to get Red Plains!
Yeah I’d be interested in your recording…email that link son.July 1, 2014 at 4:58 am #34138JF1
ParticipantHow was Red Plains? Was Holmes on fiddle or mandolin? I’m assuming the latter?
