ParticipantIn addition to what Si posted the other day of Way It Is, here is Mandolin Rain and What A Time.
With Mandolin Rain, Holmes is on the Mandolin, but Droll is on electric guitar – something that wasn’t possible previously. Not sure what to think of the electric guitar riffs throughout though.
As for What A Time, I’ll be perfectly honest, it sounds pretty empty without Bobby on sax. For comparison, there’s a really good live recording of What A Time from the Live Noise release from the Orpheum Theater in Boston in 2004.
Nonetheless, nice to see the Noisemakers back at it, and I’m very interested to hear more of the new arrangement.

KeymasterI’m intrigued by the heavy duty camera on the very left of the picture… I wonder if that was for the venue only, or something else…?

Participant@ JF1. “I’m very interested to hear more of the new arrangement.”
Same here, interested to hear their take on some of the “old” noisemakers specialty jams. “Gonna be some changes made” comes to mind. Doug used to crush it with some of his solos in there.

ParticipantSome additional video has surfaced:
Every Little Kiss. Just tremendous. My favorite live version is from Bride of the Noisemakers, but this version is awesome.

Jacobs. Seems pretty much the same, but with no sax, and some extra direction from Bruce, as expected.

ParticipantThank you very much for posting these.
Still love J.V.’s bass work on “Jacob’s Ladder.”
Additionally, I still cannot “get with” how people chatter incessantly during concerts.

ParticipantSuprised Bruce busted out ELK. He hates that song. “Doesn’t ring true anymore”….or at least it didn’t a few years ago to him…

Last summer at the Wolf Trap, Bruce was sitting down to play the dulcimer and a bunch of people in the crowd were screaming for Every Little Kiss. He went on to say how he doesn’t play that anymore, but then started strumming it and singing, and the band joined in and played probably about 4 minutes of it. When it was done, Bruce laughed and said, I like that, it’s back on the list!
My guess is because he kind of reinvented the song on dulcimer, he’s willing to overlook his distaste for the lyrics.

Here’s the thing to remember — the crucial term is “concert.” B&NMs are seen playing (here) at “The Taste of Pinellas,” which is a foodshow for Johns Hopkins/All Children’s Hospital in St Pete…where the music is perhaps charitably (no pun intended) meant to be of the “pleasant background variety while people eat ribs, seafood, watermelon, etc and the kids play in the ‘family zone’.” Probably not the show to go to if you wanted to see B&NMs stretch out, get their grooves on, get “out there,” etc. As such, with people milling about, snacking and drinking, they’re most likely NOT gonna be that into the acts…hence the chatter.
Bruce had the pleasure of appearing with (add your own snark) Loverboy, Pat Benatar & Neil Geraldo (talented indeed, but a little past their prime, perhaps?), KC & The Sunshine Band (which FL event DON’T they play at?), and the Jim Belushi/Aykroyd edition of The Blues Brothers.

I’d hazard a guess to say that this gig was seen as a good payday and a chance to get a little road seasoning on the new guys. Bona fide concerts (at actual venues with tix paid by fans to see the group later this summer) will probably feature less chit-chat.

Having said that — it’s RARE that you NOT see some joker (or two) with an actual TV cam at an outdoor “show” in the Tampa area. Why? Cable access, of course! 😆

The shows with co-billing, or especially festivals, are the dirt WORST for this. If it’s not “their guy” up on stage, some people are prone to loud chuntering.
At the Bruce/Bonnie/Jackson/Shawn show I went to in ’99, it was terrible, and was even creating an ugly atmosphere amongst a few. (I had to explain to one guy, despite him buying a ticket, who “the guy on the squeezebox” was. And he wouldn’t accept the answer!)

Internecine warfare on, what was it called, the Mellow Ones tour?! LOL
I’m getting a mental picture of an enraged Shawn Colvin fan about to come to blows with any of the other (competing?) fans…
