ParticipantWow, I’m actually looking forward to seeing this movie now. I don’t think I’ve ever said that for a Robin Williams picture. How awesome for Bruce as well!! I’ve always pictured a lot of Bruce’s music as being a soundtrack for a film, given his song’s vivid imagery and narrative. Glad to finally see someone put them on display.

ParticipantVIDEO CLIPS FROM WORLDS GREATEST DAD
Hey Everyone,
Here is a link to some video clips from the film. In one of the clips, Robin Williams is in the car with his son listening to Bruce on the radio. His son tries to switch the channel and Robin Williams gets mad. Its great stuff. Here’s the link:

ParticipantI hope this film gets a release in the UK.
I’ll go and see it if only to show my approval for the soundtrack and Bruce’s cameo!

“Heavy metal is the f@ggiest of all the f@g music” … this movie looks like a blast to me.
I’ve read a lot of positive reviews. Does anyone know if any distribution company has had the guts to pick it up yet?
I’d love to see it in a theater as well as on video!

ParticipantI followed the above link and found another link to (illegally, I presume) download this soundtrack. It was no small feat for me, since I am no computer expert. What I downloaded, however, included only Song C, Mandolin Rain, Shadow Hand, and Boo Radley from Bruce. And they all seemed to be the classic versions (I understood Mandolin Rain would be a new solo, minor-key version?) Also–the “Is-You-Is” song I got is the Dinah Washington version.
So, would this be some sort of temp soundtrack that the producers have put together???
I’d love the hear “Invisible” too — this may be a dumb question…, but is this a new composition, like “Levitate” for the Kobe Bryant project?
I so hope this film gets some form of wide release–personally, I’ve always liked Robin Williams (some of his recent stuff has been sub-par), and Bobcat Goldthwait is a hoot. I’m getting good vibes and reading great things about the movie… and I’d love to hear the complete soundtrack (and actually purchase it!)

ParticipantThe song “Invisible” will be on Bruce’s next record which is titled “Levitate”, see http://www.cantondailyledger.com/state_ … o-Rockford.

ParticipantWow! I think Dana got the scoop–directly from Rockford, Ill., of all places! The new album is called “Levitate.”

ParticipantRe: VIDEO CLIPS FROM WORLDS GREATEST DAD
“Lance and Kyle Argue Over Music” is still my favorite clip from the movie, especially now that I know the song playing on the radio is “Invisible.” I can’t wait to see the movie in a few weeks. Kudos to Magnolia Pictures for picking it up.
I find it neat that the production company is Darko Entertainment. “Donnie Darko” is one mind-trip of a movie. The director (and “World’s Greatest Dad” producer) Richard Kelly, has also remade “The Box,” an old Twilight Zone episode and Richard Matheson short story, “Button, Button,” which Kelly has greatly expanded for the silver screen.
Should be interesting.

ParticipantAmazon is now showing the “World’s Greatest Dad” soundtrack available for preorder for $18.98, with a Sept. 1 ship date. It’s on Lakeshore Records, and an expanded track listing can be found here:

Looks like “Boo Radley” and “Song C” didn’t make it, but we get both live and studio versions of “Shadow Hand”–?
ALSO: Note the audio clip from Principal Anderson: “Thank you, Bruce Hornsby” — ??? 😮

Hey Everyone,
You can actually get the movie on demand at amazon.com. SI should put a link on the main page for this one. Its $9.99 as well, but you can watch it for 48 hours. Its still cheaper than going to the movies!

Guys, all this new dissemination of movies is great and all, but I think we all ought to head out to the theaters as well to show our support in the traditional way. Assuming it IS being released in the traditional sense … I would think filling the seats could help it get wider release-?

Participant“Levitate” up at Verve
Looks like a VERY limited release in theaters for the movie. I would love to go out and support it but it appears the only way I”ll be able to see it is if my cable provider has it available On Demand.
Here is what I found out:
Opening
8/21/2009
Santa Ana, CA: South Coast Village 3
New York, NY: Sunshine Cinema8/28/2009
Berkeley, CA: Shattuck Cinemas 10
San Francisco, CA: Embarcadero Center Cinema 5
Chicago, IL: Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema9/4/2009
San Diego, CA: Hillcrest Cinemas
Santa Cruz, CA: Nickelodeon Theatres
Denver, CO: Chez Artiste
Washington, DC: E Street Cinema

Cambridge, MA: Kendall Square Cinema
Frontenac, MO: Plaza Frontenac Cinema
Philadelphia, PA: Ritz at the BourseAugust 10, 2009 at 10:52 pm #30707Victor
ParticipantGood info, mmm. All the more reason to see the movie in the theater if you’re near one of those select locations! I guess I’ll be at the Chez Artiste on Sept. 4 …
How do they determine where they open these movies anyway??? It seems so random.

ParticipantVic,
I agree with you, but you are still supporting the movie and if SI puts an amazon link on his site, than it could also help bruuuce.com as well. I think its a win win situation. Also, I watched it on amazon.com and can honestly say the quality was excellent. I had my PC hooked up to surround sound and it was awesome! I think this should be made available for all movies today. This is the future of movie watching.
Anyways, the movie is definitely worth it. I enjoyed it thoroughly and not just because of Bruce’s cameo. This was definitely one of Robin William’s best films yet since Good Will Hunting or the Dead Poet’s Society.

ParticipantHey Jeff,
I didn’t even know Amazon had movies available for download (I’m so old school)! I don’t have a problem with trying both the download and the theater preview in Denver–especially since your positive review supports others I’ve seen so far.
You’re right, movie downloads seem to be the wave of the future, but I will kinda miss that communal aspect of going to see a movie with a huge crowd of people, if it comes to that. 😥
And if Si makes a link to the Amazon download, I’ll see it that way if it helps the site.

ParticipantVic,
I definitely agree with you there. Nothing compares to going to the theaters, but when you have a movie that is a limited release like this one, it makes sense to try and get as many to see it as possible without spending millions in advertising. This seems to be the way many independent films will probably go in the near future. Where I’m from in Rochester, we have a couple of independent theaters and I will definitely go and see it there once its released just to get that whole experience and knowing that I am supporting a small business.
Anyways, has anyone else seen the movie yet? Its well worth the money if you don’t have an independent theater near you. For 10.00 its a real deal and you get it for 48 hours! The going rate for a movie ticket where I’m from is $9.25!! This movie definitely deserves some Oscar buzz. Even though its a huge stretch, but It would be great if Bruce got nominated for this one. He definitely deserves it!

ParticipantThe Soundtrack is available for download at Amazon and Itunes..got mine thru Itunes this morning!!

ParticipantHaven’t gotten the soundtrack yet, but I did go ahead and download the movie. It was quite good. I do wish they’d handled Bruce’s cameo a little differently. I think it could have had more comedic impact. But I think the tone (SPOILER!) was turning more dramatic at that point, so they couldn’t play it for all it was worth.
Another SPOILER: I was glad to see my two favorite records get nice placement.

ParticipantVic,
You convinced me! I’m gonna have to download that bad boy and check it out. I would get it On Demand, but I really hate giving my cable company any more money than I absolutely have to. I would definitely be supportive of more movies being released via the Internet, Amazon or otherwise. True, you miss the “theater experience”, but if you’re like me and have kids, it’s much more convenient and cost-effective. As an added bonus, beer is always allowed in my theater! 😆

ParticipantBruce on screen was great, and seeing him perform was wonderful. He was given real respect as an artist (despite the son’s opinion and the circumstances for his new-found popularity), and the use of Boo Radley was drole everytime.
Offbeat film, but worth seeing.
