ParticipantRoad Not Taken (St. Paul, MN – November 1, 2009 [Live Noise])
-
– Love the build up towards the end, complete perfection.
Harbor Lights (Saratoga, CA – August 24, 2001)
-
-Thanks to Si for the Dose. I haven’t heard many live recordings of Harbor Lights, but this one is so pleasing.
Mandolin Rain > Black Muddy River (Charlotte, NC – October 7, 2004 [Live Noise])
-
– I’ve never heard a version of this that builds up to a full on “rock” type ending.
Red Plains (Here Come The Noisemakers Album)
-
– Simply because this is the song/version that got me hooked to Bruce and the Noisemakers.
Way It Is (Here Come The Noisemakers Album)
-
– JV’s solo is money. Michael Baker’s drum solo is ridiculous and creates an even cooler feel as Doug’s solo is mixed in simultaneously.
Talk Of The Town (Dagle’s Choice Vol. 2)
-
– That mid section instrumental build up fronted by Reed from about 4:00-6:00 is phenomenal. Love that rhythm Sonny and JV carry throughout it.
Longest Night (Baltimore, MD – October 17, 2004)
-
– I also believe this was a Dose. It’s always a treat to hear a live version of this, and I haven’t heard many. But Bruce sings this version so well, as well as the band playing this song with such fluidity.
White Wheeled Limousine (Boston, MA – November 5, 2004 [Live Noise])
-
– Midway through the song, they go to a swing feel in the chorus, which I’ve never heard in a version of WWL before. Such an awesome feel.
What are some of your favorite tracks over the years that stand out?

KeymasterYou’ve inspired me to look up some personal favourites of mine and put them up as doses. The first one is:
Take Out the Trash (Saratoga, CA – June 20 2002)
– With JT Thomas playing a starring role. This was right after Sonny joined the band. It’s now up, off the front page.

Victor would like this one!
I always thought that…..Take Out the Trash would be a big hit at college football games. That never developed, but…..The Georgia Redcoat Band did play it at half-time at a TN game a few years back! (by strong requests and pullin’ some connections) On the other hand…..It was way back when, long time ago, but…..Seems just like yesterday!

KeymasterAnother top notch track up today:
Passing Through (Hamburg, Germany – June 23 1993)
– This one is a favourite for two reasons: because it’s not played very often, and Jimmy Haslip features on bass. It’s now on the front page.

KeymasterAnother of my personal favourites:
Rainbow’s Cadillac (Saratoga Springs, NY – July 7 1996)
– I love how a song can be switched around for a guest – in thid case it was Giovanni Hidalgo.Up on the front page!

ParticipantIn another thread, a couple of people said that they don’t particularly care for “Big Rumble,” and though it’s not one of my favorite songs, one performance of it is one of my all-time favorite Bruce performances. (It’s from my first purchase of a live recording of Bruce, and it “sealed the deal” for me: How great was he that he could be so generous as to share the stage with a longtime friend and let the friend sing, not one, but two verses? A great Bruce moment:
Big Rumble (Williamsburg (Coal), VA –December 3, 2005)
Also love WWL from this show.
__________Cruise Control (Chattanooga, TN –August 18, 2005) <---JT just rips into that Hammond B3 patch right before the final crescendo. __________ Valley Road (I need help with this one. I think it’s from somewhere in Washington state, but I can’t track it down. It’s the one in which Bruce does a tribute to Sonny and starts singing like (in his words) the church lady.)

KeymasterSome great suggestions, there. I’ve heard Joe Lee in other versions of Big Rumble – should see if I can dig one up.
Today’s dose if my favourite performance of one of my favourite songs… and I believe one of the first times it was played.
Swan Song (Oakland, CA – October 31 1998)
– Very simply done, with just Bruce and the piano. Love this version.Up now as today’s dose off the front page!

ParticipantLady with a Fan – Biltmore, 08/02/02 – the first time I
saw RS sit in with them. His solo sold me. They had major
technical problems during the song that had Wayne Pooley
absolutely beside himself and unfortunately he and Bruce decided
to omit that one song from the Live Noise style release of this show.
Not to worry, I was patched into Bobby Hornsby himself that night
and have for the ages the solo intact.June 2, 2012 at 1:11 am #33346Highway_61

I found it:
Valley Road (Roseburg, OR–July 26, 2005) I love this version of “Valley Road.”
I also like “Great Divide” from this concert very much–so much so that, when I listen to other recordings of “Great Divide,” I almost always sing the word “Roseburg” like Bruce does in this version.
As a sidenote, this performance seems to be the only concert (if there others omissions, I haven’t yet discovered them) that’s no longer available at Munck.

ParticipantMy favorite version of a song in person is last year Memorial Day in Cleveland.
Bruce played Mandolin Rain > Standing On The Moon > Mandolin Rain > Standing On The Moon.
During SOTM a huge boat cruised down the river behind the stage and just as it is passing Bruce he goes back into Mandolin Rain at the part ‘Boat steaming in’ heres a clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_ZfFAvOQ-wI agree with JF1 about the 8/24/01 Harbor Lights thats my favorite one too…such a great jam!
also the Passing Through from 8/23/01 Saratoga, CA is a stellar version…such a stanky ass grooveJune 4, 2012 at 12:19 am #33348OSCAR
ParticipantSneaking Up on Boo Radley – 9/20/2002
This is radically different from any other Boo I’ve heard. It opens up with a jam session kinda similarly to how the 8/24/01 Harbor Lights opened up. Then Bruce turns the song on its head once again towards the end.
I’ll upload it…

I agree that was a NICE jam…not sure I have that show…2001 & 2002 were my favorite years of Bruce as they jammed out big time during that period. Wish more sbd’s of shows from that era were available especially those shows with Steve Kimock, man those smoke.
Thanks for sharing the BooJune 10, 2012 at 5:54 am #33350JF1
